Is the signal strength reading on a digibox "absolute" ? I mean does it take a certain amount of dB to get it to 50% ? or 60% etc

I do not know a lot about the subject apart from the following. The signal strength shown on your box is only an indication and is not really quantifiable as such. But the strength of the signal does not concern you it is the signal quality that is important. So you can have a 60% strength and 90% quality have a great picture but reverse those figures and you may have no picture dependant upon the many variables involved such as tuner sensitivity alignment lnb capability etc Why do you ask?

My System: CM 3.0m @ 28.2 w PACE | Thanks Topper. Yes of course ... there are a couple of variables. The reason I ask is that I wanted to compare reception and actual gain in dB between 2 different dishes and compare to the theoretical gain of the dish. Is there any sort of "average", for example for a digibox to register 50% signal strength at least 30dB are needed ?

Blog Entries: 5 My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser. | Digiboxes vary wildly in percentage of signal shown, swapping the two inputs on a Sky+, will show sometimes considerable differences in signal strength from an individual feed. I don't think that there is any way that you can convert this to a db reading.
