Stab 120 and DBox2 problems

I have been trying now for days to get a Stab 120 and DBox2 to actually see anything at all. The GotoXX/USALS does not appear to do anything, the only thing the motor does is go a little way to the east and back again, over and over again. It does this whether GotoXX is on or off, drive to satellite, or even manually steering round and round in a loop. I have set up motor systems before but this "looping " thing has me baffled. I have changed all the cabling. The other thing is that suddenly the signal strength meter on the box will be up to 70, then suddenly drop to 0. However, wth the motor setup it stays up at around 70. Ideas?

P.S. forget those "through the window" cable things, they are totally useless and short out, as are shop bought "satellite" f-connector cables, save some pain and build your own.

Ok, now I'm really confused. I just re-booted, went away had a Stella and a sandwich and it actually found a signal, Hotbird I think, but when I change channels in TV mode, although it is already pointing at 13E it then says "please wait while turning to 13E" goes a little way east, then all the way back to zero, where it was in the first place. Huh?

Oh dear, backwards and forwards looping again, a little way east and back again, over and over again.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Have you put your coordinates in the USALS box in the receiver settings?

Ih you have, check that you don't have them reversed.

Ok, I can switch Gotoxx off, and manually steer the dish, click east, it goes one step east and then returns to zero, totally ignoring me, it doesn't matter what I do, it always returns to zero.

I applied a little logic, and I think I got it. I used my media master to move the motor to approximately 28.2E, unplugged, plugged the $ky box in, rotated the whole shebang around until I got a good signal, therefore finding zero degrees here in the process. So far, so good, have found 13E and it's updating now. It seems to be one of these things that is bloody simple once you have done it if you see what I mean. One point, my sat finder wouldn't power up from the $ky box with the motor attached, so I bypassed it with a double male F-connector until I was set up, probably not enough juice for it, I think the digibox was a bit shocked to be attached to a motor, although at least that way I knew the motor would stay in position. Weird happenings seem to have stopped, I did rewire the LNB F-connectors for good measure.

My System: IDD CI24 ECONO MM Penta 1.20 Galaxy II 1.2Mtr Polar MTG yes it has been on the arc for 21 years and is still driven by a modified wiper motor from a Ford Anglia. It's like me sometimes groans but always performs

But if you are in England 28.2 East is not your due South satellite

Yes, but if the motor has been moved to what it thinks is 28.2, then it should work to a degree, not as good as finding your actual due South, but does work.

No, Thor is at 1 degrees west, which is why I rotated the motor and dish to match the orbital position

Ok I misunderstood your statement, you moved it to where you thought 28.2 East was, then fine tuned by rotating the assemblyto 28.2 then used that as your reference point.

Spot on, and thanks for your help, I still can't get the damn thing to receive anything, the motor is refusing to do anything at all, too long cable run? impedance? it's only as long as a standard $ky installation. Has anyone actually ever got this combination to work? USALS/GotoXX compatible/interchangeable? have Stab changed the protocol? is the Enigma DBox2 software any good? Has it ever worked for anyone? The motor completely ignores everything. Why is there a manual positioner control on setup if the whole thing is automatic? I am totally out of ideas.

Mmm

I am afraid I am unable to help you on this Alex as I use a windscreen wiper motor to move my dish and I have to move it manually i.e. using a switch , but what the hell I am no couch potato.... mmm come to think of it
