My System: Amstrad DRX400, 1m dish in SW France (33)
initial set up problem

Complete novice at this, please bear with me.

Been trying to set up my 1m sat dish (can't remember the name, but it was a French DIY store purchase) to receive UK TV in France via my Amstrad DRX400. Can't decide whether it is just too hard to do it myself or whether there is something wrong with my equipment. Would value advice from more experienced folks!

Sky set up menu shows zero signal strength and quality and the network ID and transponder stream are all zero's too. digibox works fine at my friends house, using their satellite dish.

Where do I start trying to identify what the problems are?
thanks

Hi, Welcome to the forum

I think your dish would be just about big enough to receive signals from the astra 2D satellite in SW France.

Assuming that your cable is OK, you need to carefully align your dish to the satellites at 28E.

This calculator should help:-

_http://www.dishpointer.com.

You need to mount the dish on a pole so that it has a clear view of the Sky at roughly due south and left about 30 degrees (from behind).

If the dish is mounted on a vertical pole, adjust the elevation scale on the back of the dish according to the value given by dishpointer, then gradually swing the dish left and right until you get a good signal quality, using the built in meter on the Sky box. If you don't get one, adjust the elevation slightly and repeat until you do get a signal.

You may find one of the small satellite finder meter helps.

Also don't forget to adjust the LNB skew, set it initially to the value given by dishpointer, then adjust for max signal.

Also, are you using the correct cable?, i.e for satellite TV use.
