Another Dish Size Question

Hi

I've been trawaling through the normal sites for dish size's etc and as i live in the channel islands the recommedation is 50/55cms ????? does any live on the southcoast of england or normandy that can give me an idea of minimum size dish i can get away with a discq motor ?

My System: Technomate TM6800D & TM1000D+ receivers, Stab H-H90 motorised Triax 1m dish 42E to 30W. Fixed Orbital 1m on 26E, 2 x minidishes.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox.

It depends on what satellites you want to pick up.

You can motorise a really small dish if you want, but your choice will be limited to say 13E,19E,23.5E,28E,42E + a few others.

Most people go for an 80cm to 1m dish for a Diseqc motor.

I think 80-85 as well.

Another question slightly different though. Is there likely to be signal decay because of distance from dish to receiver with the technology these days?

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Yes, that is a measurable factor, determined by the type of cable you use over the distance. How long is the cable run? Also have a look at the Fracarro Penta 85cm dish, our supporting advertiser High Definition Ltd sells them.

its going to be 30m ish, can you recommend a cable type i should be looking at ?

30m ish would be OK.

An approved 100 type cable like wf100 would do the job. This cable has a foam filled dielectric, there are also semi-air spaced dielectric cables such as WC100, which is less crush resistant but performs the same.

webro wf100 i would also recommend or wf125 if you can get it cheap.
