My System: 2.4mtr Channel Master Dish, Fracarro Penta 85cm Dish, 64cm Traix Dish with 4 multi LNB'S Sky HD, Dreambox 800, Dreambox 500, IPBOX 250, Sky HD and a mad wife !
Whats the best diseqc motor ?

Guys in just over two years my 3rd diseqc motor has now packed up, it will not go past about 12.0w no matter what I do.

Checked everything and all looks OK.

I should have kept 36v arm and mount.

My current dish is 110cm and I am wondering if its this that is killing all these motors.

I have gone through a stab motor and two superjacks now.

I am prepared to get a smaller dish maybe a triax88cm.

So come on who can recommend a good motor or should I just sack it and get one of these wavefrontier dishes ?

Cheers

My System: 43cm Dish, Sky Plus, FRACARRO PENTA 85, Invacom Twin, Moteck SG2100a H-H DiSEqC Motor, TF5000CI, TM-5200D, Rover Discovery ST-4, Rover SDM-1s, 57E to 58W

If you do go for an td88 after all, if it's any consolation, here in the Midlands, I can pick up all the usual satellites with no problem. I was originally going to fit a 110 on to a diseqc motor but decided not to. I thought the added weight may kill the motor after some time,,, that's not to say that has happened in your case of course

My System: Octagon 318, 1.1m Triax, dish and Orbital Disecq Motor, plus all other stuff
Motor

I have used the Orbital Diseqc motor for 3 years at my house in Dover , it handles the winds off the channel fine, I am on an orbital 90cm dish.

The gears/cogs inside apparently are not plastic like most.

Not bad price either.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

If you are sticking with DiseqC, then consider a Fracarro Penta 85cm Aluminium dish (great performer) with a Moteck SG-2100, or perhaps one of the metal geared motors if you are in an exposed location.

My System: Technomate TM1000D Receiver. Stab H-H90 motorised Triax 1m dish 42E to 30W. Fixed Orbital 1m on 26E, 2 x minidishes.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox.

I have a Triax 110cm on my poor STAB HH-90, it seems to be surviving OK so far.

after my experience with diseqc motor i hate them as it has given me nothing but hassle.

anyway people rate that darkmotor as rather good, as it has metal gears and they say it will take up to 1.4m dish which they must be aluminium dish

I've heard the sellers of that motor say that they rate it, but no actual independent users, I just get the impression that it is perhaps being hyped, a little like the Technomate was when it first came out.

Beside that though, my Moteck has been up for near on five years now and has performed faultlessly for that period, in a very exposed position with an 85cm dish.

Thanks guys, looks like I will try and get a motor with metal cogs in side.

This latest fault happened after we had those strong winds last week and when I got on the roof last night there was a lot of play on the arm of the motor.

Might try a 88cm triax, I'm sure that a 110cm dish in a exposed location is not helping.

Just hope triax will pick up viasat ok.

Thanks

what dish is it as if its the 1.1m triax they still do polar mount for it so that would be a wise purchase instead of the diseqc motor

Go for the Fracarro, better performance and the Aluminium version is pretty light in comparison.

Only thing I found with 36v motor/arms is the noise they make and thats why I switched to diseqc a couple of years ago.

I don't really want to lose my 110cm dish because I can get 26.0e with this.

I have seen the new Technomate motor on Ebay which has had the hard plastic cogs inside replace with metal ones.

Keano,

If it helps, I can say I have absolutely no problems receiving 26.0e with a Triax 88 even with a small amount of rain, it's still there. The only time I lose it is when it is totally dropping it down. I am in close to N'ton

Winner of the "Most Enterprising Installation Of The Year" award

I am now into my 5th year using the MIGHTY SG2100 motor here in the USA. I live in Minnesnowta and use a 90cm Hot Dish with it! In all those years the motor has never missed a beat. 12" of snow? NO PROBLEMO! This bunny just keeps on going!

I am a LICENSED satellite installer here in the USA and I would LOVE to say the Euro STAB motor was good, but alas I can't EVERY one I have ever seen or worked on has BA C K LA S H.

OK quick update,

I have come home from work early and spent the last hour taking the 110cm televes dish down and to be honest I am not surprised I am on to my 3rd diseqc motor in 2 years this dish weighs a ton, nearly fell of the ladder getting the thing down.

Reading the info here I have just ordered from site sponsors, High Def. A moteck diseqc motor and some funny shaped dish a 85cm fracarro high gain.
Suppose to be as good as a 1mtr dish.

I not expecting the fracarro to give me 26.0e or 7.0w ( v Beam ) but if everything else is OK then it will fine, peace of mind for me too, when we have them high winds I can't sleep at night worrying about the 110cm televes dish bashing and banging about.

I'll let you know how I get on when I have set it all up.

Thanks

I found that the latest version of the technomate (with metal cogs) is quick, less noisey and very impressive

The Moteck seems to be a very popular all rounder motor and it's faster than some other motors. You have made a wise choice Keano.

To be honest I was so close to getting the new technomate with the metal cogs and at the last second pick for the moteck.

Mainly because of our American friend PSB saying his has been up and going 5 years.

If I can come back on here in 2013 and say the same thing I will be a happy man.

strange i've had lots of hassle with my moteck sg2100a motor, think i've had one out of a bad batch as not heard of people having the issues that i have.

i'm avoiding diseqc all together and going 36volt

i would like to hear how the penta dish performs up north though as i will get one if they are good reception wise up here, it would fit nice on my jaeger smr 99
