Fitting a motorised 80cm dish above guttering?

Can i fit a 80cm dish with motor above the guttering, where it will be getting all the wind. Is this safe, and what do i need to fit it, to be safe.
I want to put it, 2-3 feet over guttering(roof line).

1) I have a T&K 24" bracket set, is that enough?
2) What are the best bolts to use to stick the brackets to the wall, to be most secure?
3) Should i use 2 T&K brackets, to make it safer?
4) How long should the pole be(i will be using a scaffold pole), to be able to hold this?
5) Is there any site that deals with these questions?
6) Living in london, will i get Eutelsat W2, with a 80cm dish?
7) What cable clips can i use for fitting cable to pebble dash walls, the normal ones just bounce of?

Thx in advance for any help.

Welcome to satellites,

1. 18 inch or 24 inch T&K should be fine, make sure they are Galvanised.
2. Shield Anchor bolts M10's x 60mm is what I use for TK's
3. One set should be enough....
4. Scaffold pole should be long enough to ensure the dish clears the guttering and a bit of clearance
5. HERE, lol
6. With a good quality dish this shouldn't be a problem. ( recommend Penta 85 - see my avatar)
7. pass

Hope this helps you out fella.

Which ones out of these?
Masonry Shield Anchor Loose Bolt M10 x 10 x 65mm
Masonry Shield Anchor Loose Bolt M10 x 25 x 65mm
Masonry Shield Anchor Loose Bolt M10 x 50 x 65mm
Masonry Shield Anchor Loose Bolt M10 x 75 x 65mm

1) Thx for your reply, which one for a normal exterior brick wall of a house?

2) Also how far should i seperate the two joints, so it is strong enough, for putting a dish on a pole about 4-5 feet above the top bracket?

3) When fitting a moroised dish, what lnb skew do you start with, do you use the skew for your first satelitte, or do you leave lnb straight vertical?

Thx for your help in advance.

edited, sorry mods for the outside links, delted links.

1. These is what I use for example _http://www.screwfix.com/prods/13025/Fixings/Shield-Anchors/Shield-Anchor-Bolt-Type-10-x-68mm-Drill-Size-16-Pack-of-5

2. Hard to say without seeing it but about 2 - 3 feet apart

3. Vertical at your reference satellite

Check out the guides below.

P.S I don't think the rules allow direct outbound links

Hi,

The normal 7mm cable clips normally go into mortar OK, if you bang them in straight. perhaps you need to pick off some of the pebbles where the nail is going. Alternatively maybe some P-clips screwed in with rawlplugs would work better.

I hate pebble dash .

What do you do satman?, when you get a property that has pebble dash.

thx, the thing is there probably will be 4 wires coming of, the dish. I will try normal clips first.

Did you realise that you can get quad core satellite coax?

I can't remember where I saw it though now.

But that could be a neater solution for 4 cables.

Actually, it may have been 5 core, of wf100, black sheathing with colour coded white inside, 19mm outer diameter. Just did a very quick google and it was £3.50 a metre, but you would save that in grazed knuckles and bruised fingers.

It was 4 core and it was cheap if I remember.
I'll find the thread

5 Core+e is around 22mm with 22 -25mm clips and a bugger to manhandle although maybe a neater option. This can be placed in a conduit with fixings fitted to the outside wall

Not a cheap option mind but but possible

Have some more questions before i do the thing.

1) Do you turn the motor to your reference satelitte before or after you put the dish on the motor. i.e do you wait until after you have the dish on the motor, to use the reciever to turn your motor to your reference satelitte?

2) I have read up on rawlbolts, and they say if you do not put into middle of brick, it is not as good. If you have pebble dash, how do you guys get around this. i.e When your installing and they have pebble dash, and you use rawlbolts, do you just drill and not care about where in the brick it ends up?

3) Anyone just use normal rawlplug bolts, like some sites advise. Are they just as good?

4) I am going with 2 k's and 1 t, brackets. What would be the best way to place these, and how far apart should they be placed for best effect, to take the strain?

5) With the lnb skew on your reference sat. Do i put the dish into position, onto my reference site, then make the lnb vertical(6 o'clock). Or do i put the lmb vertical at start and then move the dish to my ref sat?

Hope those questions are clear for you guys to undertsand, Thx for your help in advance.

All explained in the guides here and here

> Start with the motor on zero.
> Place the dish centre on motor shaft and tighten set LNb at 6'Oclock.
> Fit dish/motor to brackets
> With receiver, input long/lat and send the motor to your reference satellite (possibly THOR )
> Then align to your reference satellite.

I would imagine so, i will just stick with 4 x wf100 single cables, and do what you guys say. Just clip one and then tape the rest to it.

Just a quick thx to the help i got of people of this board. Did the installation yesterday, and it worked. Like others say, just make sure your pole is totally plumb, and your half way there.

Thx again for those who helped.

p.s For any one else looking at this. When i first did it i thought i did not get 16e. I woke up this morning, and started fine tuning the west and east of satelittes and now i get it. After you install, you must fine tune your dish with your reciever to make sure you have it as good as you can get.

thx guys, glad it all worked. In the end i used 2 k brackets, and man are those brackets strong. Hopefully that thing should stay in place now. Now all i need for a final test is rain, to see if the sat i want stays on in the rain.

Anyone know where i can get a bracket for putting a sky mini dish onto a 2 inch scaffold pole. The minidish is only meant for a smaller pole, and does not fit the 2 inch pole.

Anyone know of any adapter for the back of the sky minidish to fot on a 2inch scaffold pole?
