Looks very tidy indeed, compared to mine.

My System: Technomate 2200 motor, technomate 5400 ci +USB, 90cm dish...

I do have a meter, and i'll give that a go along with the jubilee clip trick, i thought the receiver was good enough for that, when i finish work i'll have another bash. There's a small pitched roof below so its just a case of climbing out the bedroom window.

My System: Technomate 2200 motor, technomate 5400 ci +USB, 90cm dish...

Some success...

I have managed to locate Thor and from that i then found hotbird !

In case this helps others.... where i was going wrong

The problems seem to originate from being 10 degrees out despite using a rangefinder compass. Subsequent difficulties arose from trying to rotate the 90cm dish and motor around the pole which was too heavy to move smoothly in conjunction with using the meter on the reciever.

The solutions were the use of a jubilee clip which took the weight of the motor and made it easier and smoother to move around the pole and a using a PG753 meter (which needed some soldering before i could use it, which is why i was relying on the reciever meter, bad decision).

I am still 10 degrees out and i dont really know how i was that far out with the compass. The motor reads approx 3 when i am at 13 degrees. But i'll leave it at that till the missus goes on holiday so she has her foreign TV till then. Once she's gone i'll have another bash to get it all perfect.

In the meantime i dont think my reciever a Technomate 5400 usb is patched as promised from the dealer don't seem to have any channels other than the free to air, is there a quick check to see if its patched ?

MANY THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP.

I know i tried your patience, but i think i'm winning now and definitely wouldnt be without everyones input so Thanks again.

Yes, Press MENU>SYSTEM INFORMATION and look at the software version.

Also on the same page if you have "CAS Menu" and "Biss Menu" it is patched.

Pressing either of those takes you into "Key Edit" or "BISS" pages

Due south located with a rangefinder compass
Told reciever to go to Thor, which results in a very small burst of movement.

Signal Level... 89%
Quality .... 22%

No picture.... get the bbc world channell up (no signal)... sit there and fine tune / move the dish east and west for ages in either direction no picture or signal quality still. Tried moving the dish up and down same, tried moving the motor around the pole same.

Strange thing is when initially setting it up we did at one point get a channel briefly, but nothing since .....

help please
exactly the same as me. Got an installer in for £20 and he moved the dish to its "proper" position. I had tried for two hours but Thor was not where my compass said that it should be. Everything ok now.

A cheapo compass should give you an accurate enough guide to where due South is

Hi Peeps ...missus has cleared off

I'm desperately trying to set this up properly....resetting the motor to the reference point. Then no matter how carefully i move it in either direction, using a meter i cant locate thor, i can locate 8 degrees / nilesat, but the damn thing will not locate thor, its either 8 degrees or astra

once on 8 degrees i'm moving it really slowly about the pole but bugger all till astra kicks in

any explanations please

Thor is the top of your arc so you will have to alter the dish elevation to get it

Make sure the motor was on zero to start with.
What you can do is send the dish to 8W, align on 8W, then send the dish to 0.8W using USALS and then tweek

You should be able to just flex it to find it, it is only slightly higher

I think you had better do a screenshot of the channels you can get and tell us what you think they are for the sats you can get post them here for confirmation. I am not convinced you are looking at the sats you think you are

There are 11 satellites between the two and if you cannot hit one of them it must be your elevation

Been away for a week, otherwise I might have been able to provide some input.

Magnetic pole variation means that you are quite close to the actual measurement if you had offset the compass

As a first-order approximation, the Earth's magnetic field can be modelled as a simple dipole (like a bar magnet), tilted about 11° with respect to the Earth's rotation axis (which defines the Geographic North and South Poles) and centered at the Earth's centre

O.K. bear with me...

I have at the moment THOR and a strong signal 90+ percent on both level and signal. The transponder is 12643 V, 27500 KabelKiosk. Bit concerned that this really is Thor most other channels are incl BBC world service are bad signal.

There are a few Kabelkiosk I can find but they are on 8W, there are a few channels on 0.8W using 12643 V 27500 but they are part of Digi TV.
Please check these 2 links and see if any of your channels match up:
_http://www.lyngsat.com/8west.html
_http://www.lyngsat.com/1west.html
If not please try scanning the satellite you are currently on and post some more channel information.
