My System: 43cm Dish, Sky Plus v2, Thomson DSI4214, FRACARRO PENTA 85cm, Invacom Twin, Moteck SG2100a H-H DiSEqC Motor, TF5000CI, TM-5200D, Sling Media, Rover Discovery ST-4, Rover SDM-1s, 57E to 58W, Tecatel 1.35m fixed on 28e, Pace D5430-N

5W is Atlantic Bird 3.

You should be aligning your dish to this satellite as your longitude is fairly close.

Have you followed the guides?

I'm lost reading that.

> Check brackets/Pole is dead straight in all directions
> Make sure Latitude is correct on motor scale
> Clamp the dish to the centre of motor shaft whilst on the ground and at zero
> Goto USALS and enter YOUR latitude and longitude
> Then send the dish to 5W
> When dish stops, align the dish together with the motor around the pole and the dish elevation ONLY.
> When you have a signal on 5W, tighten everything up.
> Use 11.591 V, 20000, 2/3 for an active transponder if using the receiver to align and test (France 2,3 & 5)

It's correct to align to a satellite as close to your longitude as possible but.......
if you want to try sending the dish to 13e with USALS and then aligning to that first. You can then tell USALS to go to 5W and then correctly align as the software should take you to 5W or near enough there abouts.

It's another option, that's all

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

You're getting too wrapped up in this initial positioning, nowhere in the guides does it give such importance to the approximate position.

Your Due South position should be found by using the inline meter, or looking at a TV screen and manually moving the whole assembly on the mast and the dish elevation to find your due South satellite. If you think you may have an obstruction in the line of sight to 5W, then send the dish via the receiver to a different satellite and follow the same procedure.

Almost any will do, as it is a very strong satellite in the UK.

10949 V 27500-3/4 is as good as any.

If you have a line of sight problem for 5W, you could also try 1W after sending the dish to 1W first of course

Use the TV signal screen OR a compass (take a look at dishpointer.com)
