Receive channels through a Sky dish and a Hauppauge Nova-T DVB card.

Hi there. I have just joined this forum so please forgive (Move thread) if i have posted in an incorrect place. I was sure where to go. Congratulations on very impressive forum.

I am just wondering if it is possible to receive any channels on a PC with a Hauppauge nova-t DVB card and my old un-used sky dish.

We dont pay for the sky subscription any more and the dish is going to waste. There are a few channels still available on it it all appears to be in working order. I would like to try connect it up to a PC (linux, or windows i use both frequently) if possible. Currently thought I have only got a Nova-T card. Would I need a different card.

My second query would be to find out what channels would be available is it the same as those given by SKY.

Sorry for the simple question, I couldn't find the typical "Noob" section for me to look them up.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Can't with that card - it's for terrestial digital only. You'll need a DVB-S card. Something like a Skystar 2 would do - that'll receive the free Sky channels and other FTA ones.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Once you get a DVB-s card, you will be able to receive everything marked with an "F" in the encryption column on the following page with your existing dish. _http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

Don't get the latest Skystar 2 (version 2.7) if you want to use it under Linux - there are no drivers for it at present (may be later). Try and grab an earlier one, maybe off an auction site...

Cheers for all they help its been brilliant.

Just one final question is there a list anywhere of free to air satellite channels that I can receive throughout europe if i was to purchase a new dish. I was looking at the different satellites however im slightly confused by the different satellites under say Astra, do they all broadcast the same things or do they offer different channels/services etc.

Looking into it i could get a setup going for quite a reasonable price and it should help me improve my languages skills too. I think im going to get hooked on this!
