Angry post installation

Hi all

I just install 10 ft post in concrete in back of garden 2 days ago ,
When I shake the post on top still moving . the bottom is hard strong
Is there way to make it strong , as I have heavy 1.2 dish channel master.
I heard people saying fill the post with concrete or sand or gravel .
How long it takes concrete to dry before I put dish ?

Also what kind of cable to use for v-box motor , as I cant find any in store
Would it make a difference .

Any recommendation please

Many thanks

Regards

Good to hear it's 3" but sign post tubing is usually fairly thin ... it doesn't matter if a sign moves a bit in wind.. but a 1.2m dish only has to move 1mm on a weak satellite.

I'd make sure the concrete goes off properly ..

With it being 3" I'd consider hammering tight fitting box section inside it but it's not an easy job now.. better done before hand... if you fill it with concrete I'd consider the use of bars to reinforce it and tamp it down ever few inches. Also consider outriggers at about 5 foot .. 3 or 4 of them in 2" pipe to concrete bases at least 700mm from the main pole.

Do you have access to welding gear?

To stay stable to 3m high for a big dish like that it needs to be concreted in to a very large / deep / wide block of concrete with solid surroundings and lugs on the pipe to stop it turning or moving up...

For 3m we'd use 3" or 4" heavy wall pipe (steam pipe/ schedule 80 ../8-10mm wall stuff ) 4 or 5 foot in the ground... pipe flange joined at the ground level for removal or adjustment, 4-5 foot above ground in 4" pipe weld reducing to 3" heavy wall for 1m or 2m or drop down again for the last 1m to 2".
That will not move in strong winds.

Well

The attached document you may find helpful assuming the pole is actually strong enough.

If you fill the 3" with concrete .. get some advise on using a higher tensile mix perhaps with some chemical additives more suited to that job as well as reinforcing rods. Filling it with concrete might do it on it's own if the base is substantial enough already.

If you notice the pdf there that Topper posted .. it's far more substantial than most people realise just putting a free standing pole in the grounds at just 37"/ 1m high to take a 1.2m dish. They specified using schedule 40 x 2 3/8" pipe (US) which is thinner walled than sched' 80 but OK at 1m on a 1.2 . .. at 10foot / 3m in total... wind loading is amplified down the pole to such an extent that those specifications aren't enough much beyond 1m. All those specs need beefing up considerable up for a 1.2 at 3m.

You might also consider putting a larger tight fitting pipe (4" sched 80 might do.. ) on the outside.. up to 5 foot - welded to the 3 inch at the top and welded to a base plate secured into the concrete base and perhaps shutter a concrete block around the base about 1/3m3.
