Mesh dish

Hi folks because of the high winds we experience in this part of Wales i am thinking of fitting a Mesh dish, i just wondered what difference (if any) this would make to reception levels,

what is the best mesh dish on the market ??

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Don't think there are many quality dishes produced with mesh faces Dave, Raven used to do a mesh version of the Gemini, but I haven't bought one for a while, so not sure whether they are still available.

People like ISS make mesh dishes, but I've never been over impressed with the quality.

The wind resistance on a mesh dish will be slightly less, but not convinced as to whether the trade off compared to a good quality solid dish will be worth it.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

The holes in a mesh dish are too small to make any major difference. Just get a decent solid dish anchored down as firmly as possible and accept occasionally you are going to have to adjust it or replace it.

What size dish and what satellites/channels are you after..

We've used ISS 1m perforated dishes, you have to make sure they are true before installing them and really add lightweight bracing, not a job for everyone. As far as wind loading, the perforations are minimal in the ISS, they reduce weight but only help a bit at low wind levels. Some Sky dishes & older 60s perforated dishes are very transparent - I'm sure if 60 is OK they would give far less wind loading.

My System: andrews dish - jaeger 1224 motor, vantage x221tsci, skystar 2, diablo v2.3, cyfra+

a decent dish on a strong pole 3inch diameter, with polar mount/actuator or h2h motor like the jaeger 1224 will hold up very well in strong winds

Thanks guys sorry i haven,t replied sooner, been away for weekend, i note all your comments, the dish i have was installed about 5 years ago, i,ve been looking at types of dishes and Wod,s suggestion of fitting a stronger motor mount looks favourable i may also move the dish to the other end of my house where it will be less exposed but still pick up the sats i want,

thank you all again

regards dave

have you got a picture of your setup as if its a known dish then there will be options or what motors or whether a polar mount is available for your dish

My System: Motorised ASC 1.2m,1224 Supermount with C120 Invacom Quad LNB with Matched Feedhorn.

As stated in the earlier post i'd try n use a solid dish, i've installed a couple of iss dishes supplied by customers and the coating has started to peel off over a short period of time around the holes, can't say if its just a bad batch, but doesn't look good.

My System: 1.2M, & 55cm Gregorian Dish`s, 1.8m Precision dish Jaeger 1224 H-H motor.Dreambox 800, Vbox-II. SS2 Card.

If you can, try and find the best sheltered place for the dish.

But its not always possible

How long did it take for the paint to peel?... we've not seen that (yet), in fact the faces have stayed looking like new and no sign of that, but we have seen some of the galvanised coating on the brackets fail...

To be honest one was peeling upon install but only slightly right at the base on the back lip, second was prob 3 months after install customer contected me to ask if anything could be done i.e. paint it, to be honest i cant tell you how long the dishes had been owned prior to instillation but both looked brand new.

Here it is Wod, as you can see its quite exposed, on the edge of the pine end, winds come down the mountain across the dish west to east.
