Question 1.2m dish motor question

Hi everyone

I have just bought a nice 1.2m fibreglass dish (I have planning permission).

I also have a fortec H-H motor which says it can handle up to a 1.2m dish. Will it really handle this dish or will I need to use an alternative method to motorise it?

Cheers

My System: Zone1 Dish, DSI8215 SkyHD, Thomson DSI4214, TF5000CI, Dreambox DM800 HD PVR, TM-5200D, Gibertini 104cm, Invacom SNH-031, 36v Actuator, Vbox-II, 42°E to 30°W, Sling Media, Televes H45 Digital Processing Analyser, Satlook Micro+G2 NIT, Rover SDM-1s

Welcome,

H-H DiSEqC motors document up to 120cm but in practice this size dish is too big and heavy for this type of motor.

A Fibreglass dish will be lighter of course so maybe it's possible.

Preference would be 36v route with a 120cm dish if it was me.

Also it depends on if it's located in an exposed position or not.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Spectrum analyser.

In my experience most Fibre dishes have been pretty heavy, any idea what the weight of the dish is and what make it is?

You would be better with a polar mount and jack arm or a 36v H to H motor, like the Jaeger 1224.

Muhuhuhahahahahaaaaarrrgggh

Not wanting to disagree with people that have a lot more experience than me, but I got an SG motor and a really heavy steel 1.2 m dish. It did say max 1.2 m on the motor, so that's what I got
Not only that, it is exposed to wind as well - but so far, the motor has lasted a few years without too many problems...might be worth just trying it out first.

I don't mind spending the money. It came with a az-ei mount and i understand I will need an actuator and a positioner. The positioner is not a problem but any idea what size actuator to get??

Also are there any guides to installing these about?

I am very competent in standard dish installs and h-h motors etc but never done a large one like this before

Oh yeah my dish is a 1.2m SMC fibreglass _http://sccshop.co.uk//product_info.php?cPath=21_104&products_id=95

the antenna is 17kg and the mount is 6kg (Despite in the description saying only 14kg)

Ah, nice dishes the Visiosat, I wouldn't want to put that on a DiseqC motor though.

Just add an actuator, 24" for the average setup.

I think there is a guide in the stickies at the top of this section, if there isn't, then there are a few who can help.

Your guide will be welcomed

They do a polar mount too for that dish. You'll need that to go with the actuator.

These two say a bit about it.

My supplier has 12" and 18" actuators in stock but has to special order the 24" ones.

Would one of the others be good enough?

My System: andrews dish - jaeger 1224 motor, vantage x221tsci, skystar 2, diablo v2.3, cyfra+

18" would be ok but not sure how much arc it would cover as you would have to play with the position of it on the polar mount
