My System: none
LNBs

First of all I am a newcomer to Satellite TV and was thinking of going in for the new Humax HD box with recorder when it comes out at the end of this month.
On Curry's website it quotes £79.99 for installing a satellite dish, when I inquired in the store I was told £99.99 because with it having 2 tuners it needed 2 LNBs (whatever they are) as opposed to 1 LNB.
I would like to know if this is correct.
Also there seems quite a variation in prices for the dish installation I went next door to Comet there price was £159!

Thanks
wallie

All Curry's, and other high street stores, will give you is a similar set up to S*y, which is a fixed satellite dish, probably with a quad LNB, which has 4 output so that you can connect 4 separate cables to 4 tuners.

I would advise that you read around the forum and consider going for a motorized dish set up, this will give you access to far more satellites and channels.

My System: Sky Freesat in UK, Astra 1 ana/dig in UK using Technomate -5000 DAPCI, Astra 2 South Beam and Eurobird in Spain.

I would give Currys, Comet a wide berth as regards installing. Find a good local independent installer if you are unable to do it yourself. There is an Installer's section on this this Forum which might be worth a look. I think I saw one there available in the Northeast.

Hi Wallie and welcome.

If they claim 2 LNBs then you should be looking elsewhere.

The supplier may be suggesting a twin LNB, as you need two independent cables from the dish to the receiver (one records independently of the viewing), hence the slightly higher price.

But get confirmation first.

I would also acknowledge the advantages of going down the motorised route, as there are far more channels (many in English ) on other satellites that you can watch. But fitting one of these may be outside the reach of the mount given by the Currys (Curries ?)/Comet system, certainly the number of connectors required, and the installation will also require a far better idea of geometry and signal reception than the standard install if you wish to get the best out of the system.

Good luck

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

A twin LNB, (or a quad) is more expensive than a single so expect to pay more, this is because the installation price includes the LNB and dish etc.

If you want to DIY expect to pay about £20 for the dish, £10 for a quad LNB and £10 for the cable. Ebay is cheap for these items.
