Hi all, I admit I'm a newbie and I would like to know the advantages/disadvantages between using a motorized system against using multiple LNBs instead. What is the reason for going for such technologies rather than using the usual fixed dish? thanks

| DiSEqC Horizon-Horizon Motors (Used on Dishes up to a metre or so) can be quite slow to track across the arc, but are cheap and easy to set up. Multi-LNB solutions offer instant Satellite switching and (in my opinion!) can be tricky to set up - although there are custom made brackets available for some Dishes which take a lot of the pain away. Also, there is a limit to the number of Satellites that a multi-LNB Dish can see, whereas a Motorised Dish of a suitable size can get useful results on most of the Satellites in the visible Arc. | ||

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | Here in Europe we have many satellites to choose from, hence the desire for either a motorised dish, multi LNB or multi- dishes. The motor is the most flexible and gives a the widest choice of satellites for the least cost. Disadvantage is you have to wait for the dish to move and it is less convenient to run more than one receiver from it. Multi-LNB brings fast switching between satellites, and easier to have multiple receivers. The cost increases way above a motorised dish once you start adding more than 3 or 4.

My System: 2 x DM7020 CM 1.2 | Well, I have the best of both worlds, I have dish diseqc controlled with 28e, 19e and 13e and a motorised dish for the rest, all automatically controlled from a Dreambox DM800

My System: skystar2 pci skystar usb + porty lidl camping dish maybe one day i'll have a dreambox 500s... | dubious, I have pretty much the same setup technisat 45cm dish for 28.2°E, 19.2°E, 13°E on a spaun 4:1 switch, the spare entry on the switch goes to the motorised dish lnb as it is a twin (pretty clever hey lol) I can always watch at least 2 programs on my screen as I have 2 pc cards (one skystar to move the dish and one dvb-S2 on the switch / 2nd motorised lnb out) ![]() Motor: a lot of different satellites, one cable run, maybe cheaper when compared to a lot of different lnbs in a big multifeed setup; zapping is slow and motors can make noise (neighbourhood trouble) Multifeed: expensive if you want loads of satellites (lnbs, switches, multifeed dishes like wavefrontier, etc), but you can share it with other people if your lnbs are twins, quads, etc, instant zapping, but you need more cable runs and it usually takes more space, etc.

My System: Sky; Raven 90 multi-LNB 1W, 7E, 9E, 13E 16E, 19E; 1m Orbital dish on Moteck SG2100 motor; Technomate 1500, Phoenix Apollo and Kathrein (analogue) etc etc Receivers | In terms of setting up, I think that what can make a multi-LNB set up apparently more difficult is if the set-up is in a position difficult to access; then, aligning each individual LNB for the more tricky satellites can be a nuisance. In my case I have my multi-LNB set up ground mounted and, as a result, I find it a doddle to mess with such that it is really a toy that started with three LNBs which somehow (I wonder!) quite rapidly grew to 6 LNBs - receiving a total of seven satellites (as an LNB for 7e also brings in 9e). As it happens, I also have a ground mounted motorised dish using a Moteck 2100; can someone tell that I don't like the hammering things into wall aspect of satellite instalment? PS Ah, just realised I must update my profile!

Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | Yes, I agree with you bigtee, doing the multiLNB in situ is difficult when mounted on a wall, even with a standoff on a ladder. However, I normally set them up on a vertical pole at ground level, then as long as the pole on the wall is vertical too, it's just like putting a singly focussed dish up, as all adjustments have already been done. What switch you using bigtee?

| So, as Robbo rightly calculates, it's your Motor that's slow ....................... compared to spec. | |||

Just select your configuration in the menu prior to the scan.
