Low strength and quality

I am not receiving any stations and the strength is down to 5 and quality 28. This happened yesterday afternoon, no reason that I can think of that would have caused it.
I have checked the connections and they are good, power is at the motor and the dish hasnt moved. Could the LNB be defective?
The same problem happened a few weeks ago and as soon as I started to check the dish and connections the strength went up but there was no obvious sign of a defect.
Should I just go out and buy another LNB?

Well

Lnbs are not expensive these days and they do fail and in doing so can display very odd characteristics, I had one go a few years ago and it would sometimes work but mostly display no signal. There have been instances where a spider has managed to invade the lnb and only hides when you approach the dish.
