There was my problem. I could only work from under it .

My System: a sky mini dish + a Dreambox 600S with Gemini- 430 and CCcam 2.0.8

Thanks for all the suggestions - greatly appreciated - for financial reasons i.e. me being a student it is looking like these will be out of my price range I think I will have to drop the height for ease of access hoepfully those trees of to the east wont cause me too much trouble. I thought once I got the bracket up that would be the hard part over but it makes sense that putting up the dish may be a pain in the butt too - back to the drawing board

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Well if you can get away with installing the Dish at reduced height, it makes post-Installation twiddling and Maintenance soooooo much easier

As regards the trees (says he, reading back through the Thread!), I have some massive trees in the field behind me that cause a heck of a lot less problems than you'd imagine from simple observation.

Ok everything is going to plan I have hired an SDS drill what a machine. Anyhow my question is when I mount the dish/motor on the vertical pole do I tighten it when the arm of the dish is facing due south?

Yes. The motor body should be pointed due south from the mast, and when the motor is at zero the dish should point due south also.

Your best bet is to set your coordinates in your receiver, then send the dish using USALS to 5W (your nearest due South satellite), then use the alignment meter to align on 5W as per the sticky threads.
