My System: Samsung r610 16" Full HD laptop, HDTV terrestrial dongle for laptop, planning to acquire a free-to-air HD satellite receiver and caravan-mountable receiving dish or flat aerial.
Advice please for Eurosport HD in Spain

Hi all

Go easy on me as I'm new here, and hope I'm in the right section, there are so many!

Ok, here's what I want to do:

I'm a caravan "full-timer" travelling round Spain and as I'm a professional cycling fan I want to be able to watch Eurosport HD on my new Samsung r610 Full HD laptop. I don't want to subscribe (if possible) so it will need to be a free-to-air signal. I know Sky include Eurosport HD as part of their package but I'd like to avoid Sky if possible (anyway it's officially illegal here, although thousands flout the law).

A fellow mobile man told me his flat satellite aerial/"dish" (Kathrein) works well so I fancy one of those as it looks small and easy to point (is it?) together with a suitable free-to-air HD satellite receiver that I can run on either 12V or via my inverter (how many watts do receivers generally require?)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

Ed

Ok cheers. Sky would need a 1.3m dish here, so any ideas on other broadcasters I could get it from on subscription, using a smallish dish?

My System: 1.8m PF Dish, most sky and freesat recivers, 80cm on Illusion motor and Dreambox DM7025, TDT

Correcto. Most versions of Eurosport are Pay TV only, and all HD versions are also.
apart from the still free to air analogue (in english) and digital (in german)version on Asra 1 - easily receiveable in most of Spain on an 80cm dish.

Even if you do pay sky for Eurosport,
Eurosport 1 (and EHD!) is on the south beam of Astra2 and should be available easily over Spain all of the day - possibly on an 80cm dish,
but
Eurosport2 is on the North beam of Astra2 and can be "tricky" to receive, especially during the afternoons....even on a big 2.4m dish in many areas of southern spain.
TVE1 2 and / or Teledeporte (the national Spanish broadcaster channels) do cycling, especially the TdF and Vuelta.

Excellent info, thanks, I'll look into those options. Yes the Tour de France was in terrestrial HD from the national broadcaster last summer and it was very impressive on my previous 1440 x 900 using the laptop TV dongle receiver. But they don't show nearly as much cycling as EuroSport does.
