I have another question. (If i ever get this done ill write a wallys guide)

How do you distinguish between satellites? Do you have to scan, then whats found and then match them up online?

Also the signal bar on a dreambox, will it increase no matter what satellite is inline with the dish? For example; if i have thor selected on the menu and I inadvertently line up with a satellite a few degrees east or west, will the signal level on screen still increase? or will it only increase when thor is inline?

Many thanks.

Yes, unless you have an expensive meter with NIT or picture out. To help always choose a transponder frequency that doesn't exist on neighbouring satellites, only on the satellite you are seeking.

This is why you choose a transponder that is not active on neighbouring satellites. That way your signal strength/quality bars will only move when you zero the correct satellite.

Thats the idiots guide, too advanced for me

Well that was easy.

Found thor (I assume) 95% signal, i told the dreambox to go to astra 28 and i got 94% there too. lol 800 ish channels, bskyb service, so does that mean im aligned correctly. BskyB is on astra 28 i hope.

I assume i can get the dreambox to operate using my genuine subcription card with a bit of messing. Thats my next step.

Cheers all

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Just about.

It's a good idea to check Satellites at the end of the Arc.

42E (of the worthwhile Sats), probably further, depending upon your line of sight and 58W at the other end.

Also try weaker Satellites like 10E etc. just to demonstrate stonking performance across the board!

Edit: I've just scrolled back to find out you've got a 1.1m Dish, so do try BADR at 26E.

On a 1.1m should all channels on 26e by fine?

The MBCs are the marginal ones, so if they are ok, you are ok.

Me again

I found a free to air football match on LJs. The details are attached.

This is on the thor satellite, i noticed my previous automatic scan hadnt found the channel. So i tried a manual scan and sure enough new services were found. Unfortunately its unwatchable, a fluctuating ber value and SNR.

1. Why didnt the dreambox find it on the automatic transponder scan?
2. Am i likely to recieve this with tweaking?
3. I now assume some transponders are weaker than other on the same satellite?

Thanks again

Should get Tp 11.919 (Mbc) using a 110cm in B'ham.
