Problems with Hellas sat 39 East

Hi Guys,

Just registered on this forum after searching to find a solution to my problem.

I have a "Lidl" free to air satellite setup that I have had for a while but only just got round to setting up. I'm after getting the free channels from the Hellas satellite (hence posting here!)

I know that my (60cm) Satellite is pointing at 39 degrees east for certain (I'm in south Essex) but I've been unable to get any greek channels through my (Sky Line) receiver. I've selected the Hellas 2 sat in the setup and also input the Frequency of 12606 and S/R of 30000 as per the Hellas website. But a search on those settings brings up nothing. I've performed an "Auto Scan" and its found around 80 or so channels (most subscription) but NONE of them are greek!

On another note the only channel I can get (Sat1 I believe its a german channel) when watching it the box keeps rebooting itself after approx 10 seconds? I assume that this is not normal, but are these 2 problems related?

Any help would be VERY much appreciated! I'm stumped!!!!

Thanks in advance

Keith

Looking at the Hellas 2 channels list, I can see that the OTE platform has several Greek channels (TV and Radio).
The footprint is F2 which seems to be good enough to catch with a 60cm dish on 12606H.
You should input 30000 and 5/6 instead of the default 27500 and 3/4 in the TP data fields.
_http://www.lyngsat.com/hellas2.html

There are two more TP's with Greek channels. Just input the parameters as listed in Lyngsat and see if you get them.

Regarding Sat1 problem:
I can't see it in the list. Which frequency is it?
I had similar problems with my Nokia 9800S with ZDF and I simply deleted the channel.

Thanks for the reply!

I did input the 12606H and 30000 as stated above but it would find no channels
Where do I enter the 5/6 data? I can see no option for it in my settings?
Could this be why I'm not getting channels?

Hi Satellietman

Yes I am 100% sure as I've had a local engineer round who has rigged up the (60cm) dish for me and showed me the meter which was buzzing at 39 degrees East. His meter was also selected to Hellas2.

I assume that meant it was correct???

5/6 is the FEC parameter. (FEC=Forward Error Correction)

Will help if you can give us few channel names, even scrambled, as suggested by Satelliteman. The Sat1 looks suspicious and you might be getting Astra 19.2E instead. What is the frequency of the Sat1 channel in your receiver?
As it is rebooting after 10 seconds, disconnect the LNB cable momentarily until you get a reading, hopefully.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

It is not uncommon for these small meter identifications to be erroneous, they identify by comparing two or three transponders and occasionally another satellite will have the same transponder frequencies and parameters.

A list of the channels you can receive will seal the deal as to whether the meter has fibbed or not.

If those are the channels you are receiving then your dish is aligned to 23.5°e

In addition, the frequencies/channels you supplied do not tally.

Yep, definitely 23.5 East, his meter has told him porkies.

As Satellite man says, the frequencies you list are not correct, have you played with the LNB settings?

Yep, meters are very useful for peaking, but nothing confirms it better for me than getting the right picture on the screen.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I'll pass on that info to him and see if we can sort it out. I didnt ralise that these things were so flippin hard to align!
When a meter gives you a bum reading it doesnt help things does it?

No idea how the frequencies are wrong though? All I did was an auto scan. I think the LNB is set to universal which I assume is the default setting? There are some user settings but its not set on those.

Thanks again

That's an experience thing, I wouldn't leave a house unless I was sure that the dish was aligned to the required satellite, so if my meter wasn't one which gave me a recognisable spectrum trace, picture and or channel list from the satellite, I would be inclined to check by scanning on the receiver.

Not familiar with the Philex receiver and no idea of the manufacturer, but it should have a factory reset button in one of the menus, I'd recommend that you do that before scanning again (it'll clear any wrongly scanned channels and reset to default LNB settings etc) after re-alignment of the dish.

Cheers Rolf
Will do that thanks! Mines a "Sky Line" one? Seems a very basic receiver which I would expect from this budget setup

Also is there a site that lists all the channels and the sattelite that they are on? I can then use this when he comes back to realign so we know where we are pointing, if you know what I mean!

Thanks again all I will report back when he has returned!

Robbo lives near Gillingham, Kent Keith, but it will depend on where you are in Essex as to how close he is.

If you go to the site where the two links are above, you can navigate to the Hellas sat page. _http://www.lyngsat.com/hellas2.html

Ok, well, I popped to see Keith4444's dish, it was a perfectly aligned dish, getting a really good signal, loads of channels. Pity they were all from 23.5E though.

Now sorted of course, the original install, must have either been mad or clueless, or both.

What was the install like (and will the Keith's installer refund him your 'reasonable' callout charge though ?)
