beginner systems? or advice

Hi

I am thinking of getting my dad something different to Sky, what would be the best option to receive sports, mainly football and tennis, and as many other channels.

I am thinking of £300 max

I have seen Art cards etc, but know very little of hardware options.

I couldnt spot a beginners section

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Theres very little sport available fta so you need to factor in the subscription cost

If your 300 quid budget includes the sub then you aint going to get much of a system!

My System: Sky; Raven 90 multi-LNB 1W, 7E, 9E, 13E 16E, 19E; 1m Orbital dish on Moteck SG2100 motor; Technomate 1500, Phoenix Apollo and Kathrein (analogue) etc etc Receivers

The best option is always a motorised dish with, if necessary, a suitable subscription or subscriptions. There is a lot of free/FTA Tennis (most Masters series) on JSC Sports channels Nilesat 7w but I reckon that satellite will be difficult to receive in Yorkshire.

The JSC channels are replicated on Hotbird, which should be easy to receive in Yorkshire, but will require a subscription.

With regard to football, a JSC subscription will give you some Scottish Premiership football and various others including European football (UEFA etc). The JSC card does not cover English Premiership football.

Your simplest option (unless you absolutely want English Premiership football) is a fixed dish on Hotbird and a JSC subscription. The total cost for this including the one year JSC subscription should just come to about £300.

ETA: also on Hotbird is a channel called Super Tennis which is not really 'super' but does show a lot of minor tournaments live and some slightly bigger tournaments delayed as well as older/classic games. This channel is free/fta 98% of the time.

Hi

Thanks for the info

I suppose I better look at more money,

I saw an Art card package that showed Chelsea games etc, but he is a Man Utd fan!,

So I am open to any suggestions really, I know the motor and dish arent expensive, but when it comes to a receiver that controls the dish is another thing. There are so many receivers its mind blowing.

You need to decide whaich package you want then we can advise better on which receiver you need.

Packages cost anything up to 1500 quid a year from British resellers!
