Receiving Intelsat 7 (68.5e) in Northern Ireland?

Hello everyone ,

Total satellite newbie here, so please bear with me and my bad terminology. I am currently residing in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland, and I am just wondering what the possibility of receiving Intelsat 7 would be. I have had a look at the footprint on Lyngsat-Maps, and the red line is just passing through Northern Ireland, but for me the dish size it indicates is not clear. So I would appreciate it if someone could give me a rough dish size I would need to pick up this satellite.

Any help or info would be appreciated, and sorry for any poor terminology used.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Well ignore the C Band diagrams if you are planning to use your Dreambox.

The Ku Band Footprints for the few Channels transmitted on European Beams show an absolute max. of 40.6 dBW (generally 38dBW) at the weakest published contour sitting vaguely over Northern Ireland.

Dish size - well it varies markedly depending upon the merest departure from the theoretical available EIRP, but 2m would be in the ball park for 38dBW ..............

In practical terms, I rather think you have no chance at all!

I suspect you are effectively out of Footprint and probably over the horizon too.

What is the attraction, BTW?

Intelsat-7 will be almost on the horizon in Northern Ireland, so if you have trees, hills, blocks of flats, high fences etc out to the southeast forget it

Never mind - we were all beginners once

Now at least you know you would be wasting your time and could spend a lot of money for no reason.
