Record one sat while watching another

Hi all... first post from a novice!

I've given up on getting a decent Freeview signal, so I want to install a FTA satellite system. I'm planning on installing 80cm dish with LNBs for 28, 19 and 13E, but I'm wondering if twin-tuner receivers allow the recording of one satellite while watching another, and how to set up the system to achieve this.

I'm looking at a Technomate TM 5400 CI+ as the receiver.

Thanks in advance.

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

On a proper twin tuner receiver, recording one channel om one satellite whilst watching another should be very straight forward. This is possible as both tuners are run independently.

My only personal experience with this is with a twin tuner Cube Revo (which was not mine), but all other proper twin tuner pvrs should do the same.

The tM5400CI, is not a twin tuner PVR, so it wont do what you want, unless you buy two of them.

How, to set it up?

Well, that would depend on the receiver, but basically you fit two 4-way diseqc switches and feed the outputs of each switch to the two tuner inputs. Then go and set up each tuner for the three sats.

BTW, Technomate are releasing or have released recently the TM7100, I think that will do what you want and its HD, very pricey though.

EDIT. The TM7100 was released yesterday.

Thanks for that - for some reason I thought that the TM 5400 CI was a twin tuner

Now I know that the tuners work independently I can keep looking for a decent twin PVR!
