My System: sky freesat virgin
Hispasat + Astra + Hotbird

Hi there,

I am brand new in terms of satellite, so first of all, apologies if I sound silly. I am in the IT area, started reading about satellites and TV, althought I am still not certain about what kit to get in order to get Hispasat + Astra + Hotbird in the same dish. What I am really interested is to get italian TV (RAI 1,2,...) and possibly GLOBO international (which I know is encripyted). . I know that I could get them on Hotbird, but having ASTRA and Hispasat would be a plus. If that is too complicated I would be satisfied getting the HOTBIRD satellite only. What kit do I need? I appreciate any advices.
I am in the South East of London.
Thanks in advance,

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Hispasat is too far round to get with any normal dish if 19/13E is required so you will need to think about a 2 dish installation.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

To get those particular Satellites on one Dish, you'd need a Motorised system.

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

For viewing and controlling in just one room a motorised dish would be the best way. An 80cm dish would be good, but you'd get away with a 60cm if you need it kept small. With the added advantage of being able to pick up other satellites that may show Italian too.

For feeding to more than one room, fixed dishes are far more conveniant with fast switching between sats.

Two dishes, one for Hispasat, and the other could be a 60 or 80cm with two separate LNBs for 19E and 13E. A diseqc switch to switch between them.

For Hotbird alone, a Sky minidish would do it, plus a sat FTA receiver of your choice.

Let's see if I am not stupid to understand this:
I could go for one 60cm dish only and get Astra and Hotbird (sound a bit strange, though!!) or I could go for a motorised system and get all three (Hispasat, Astra and Hotbird).
Dreambox would go on both cases, right? If yes, which model should I go for?
I have a Sky dish with Sky box. However, I am not a subscriber anymore. Could I use this in case I go for the one sattelite solution?
Sorry guys, but I just would like to remind you that all I want is to get RAI 1,2,3,etc and GLOBO.
Thanks in advance.

For all programmes on RAI 1 2 & 3 you need a Tivusat receiver on 13E - Boxes are in short supply and only available to folks with an Italian tv licence and address. Cards / cams should be available next year sometime

TV Globo is available on 13E as well although its also scrambled.

Dude, what channels do you want to receive from Hispasat, because pretty much everything FTA on that satellite is duplicated on 19.2šE?

Yes, but some of those Channels do Encrypt for Rights Restricted Programming eg Formula 1 on Rai Uno.

With a TivųSAt Receiver, that can be overcome.

Not really worth it right now, but once take-up of Tivų reaches critical mass, expect more Encryption and less FTA.

From Hispasat I am interested in the PFC channel (scrambled). It's not a big deal if I couldn't get Hispasat only because of that channel. I would be please with Hotbird and Astra only though. I am getting Astra already as I've got Sky (no sub) still working as FPA, right?
What I really want is RAI 1, 2,3, etc and TV GLOBO.
I am confused now because Analoguesat said I need a Tivisat and tv license and italy address.!?!? Wouldn't the Dreambox work to get Hotbird and Astra?
Cheers.

You are mixing up two seperate ideas

Yes the Dreambox will work with Astra & Hotbird & will give you all the channels that are free or you have access to subscriptions for.

RAI have introduced a new secure encryption system that only works with their Tivusat boxes at the moment (certain programmes only - RAI encrypt many of their sports & movies, and it can only increase in the future.

Right! So just to get started I could get a Dreambox (which model?) and a 60cm dish pointing to Hotbird in order to get the RAI channels (bearing in mind certain programs might be encripted) and TV GLOBO (scrambled). Is that correct? Can I use my Sky dish or I need a new one?
In order to get Astra and Hotbird do I need a motorised system?
Sorry for being a pain.
You guys have been very helpful so far. Thank you very much.

For the free rai programmes almost any digital receiver would be suitable.
However if you want to add a subscription later (eg a Tivusat cam & card) then you need something with a cam slot (CI slot)

Either a motorised set up or a fixed dish with two lnb's and a disecq switch.

You can use a mini dish for any satellite that is strong enough. Have a look at this.
