system buying

Hi,

i am lookign to get a setup to recieve satellite tv from the astra satellite (and hopefully if they ever come back, Sky italia and Digitial +).
im not sure what i need on the dish front.
it was suggested a 1 metre dish. how much should i pay for this?
Ive noticed you can get different lnb's. what size/strength (or whatever) should i go for? how much should i pay for this?

regards

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

The most important piece of information for determining dish size, is where you live in relation to the satellite footprint, where are you?

So fairly local on the scale of things I presume.

Channel Hopper.

You will get to hear more of him I'm sure if you hang around here
for any length of time.

As for the LNB it's down to how much you want to spend.
they have a noise figure in DB and the lower the better.
having said that the Invacom 0.3 can be had for £25
or an MTI 'blue' 0.3 is £15.
Someone said recently that on e*ay they were selling
LNBs for £9 and they were quite good.

Try to get decent cable especially if you have a long run from the dish.
CT100 is recommended.

Thanks Lancelot, yes just checked back in the post history to see that.

Worth noting for newbies though, if you are asking for answers to problems or queries about system setups, then the more information you give, the more likely you are to get a good answer. Some of the guys on here alternate between several forums and have pretty busy lives outside the forums, so can't always afford the time to search back through a poster's post history.
