Trying to setup Norwegian Viasat in Scotland

Hi,
My Wife is and kids have Norwegian as a 1st language. I have a legitimate subscription to Norwegian Viasat, have just moved to Scotland and am trying to get it working.

I have a 1.2 m dish with twin LNB's, a Thomson settop box(came with subscription) and have borrowed a Satlook Micro+ meter.

I'm an absolute newbie and basically only know what I've read on these forums and other internet pages:

I need Thor 1 deg W. and Sirius 5 deg E. I have managed to tune into Sirius an get a lock, although the signal strength is not good and a satellite at 7 deg E. keeps bleeding over my signal.

I can't find Thor at all, which concerns me as everyone says that is the one with the strong signal.

I am unable to do a network search on the set-top box as I am not getting a strong network signal, although when I do an open search, I get ukranian tv and a lot of Dutch Channels, which could come from the 7 deg signal?

I have taken note of the transponder signals to hunt for from another link on this site 11766H 27500; 11189V 2142; 11421 241501; 12303 25548, but need to do some reading on how to get them stored in the Meter.

I have read and read and read, and tried and tried and tried to get this to work.

if anyone can help me, I will be eternally grateful. If I need to drop to 1 LNB, reduced channels etc. I will, but I will settle for anything just now.

The variuos signals on 5E and 1W are transmitted on a number of different tarnsmission footprints. Peak your dish up using the 5E ukrainian signals on 11766 - they are nice and strong

For Thor 1W try the transponder that transmits the BBC World channel. The Dutch channels must be coming off 19E!

Thanks very much for the quick reply!

As before, I apologise for my ignorance, but I'm hunting for the Satellites using a 'match' function on the meter as it beeps when I get a lock.

The only thing I know how to do, is change the frequency on what I'm looking for. I've just been checking and the meter doesn't let me store a transponder manually. I need to lock in to it first and then save it. How daft is that?

What frequency are the BBC Channels on?

Now I'm even more confused. I just checked the channel list I'm getting, and as far as I can tell it is on 5 deg East: http://www.satmania.com/eng/satchann...covery_channel

But, It appears to be on Sirius 2, whereas, I need Viasat which is on Sirius 3!!!!
Both show as 5 deg East.

Even with a 120cm dish you may struggle to get Viasat on the Nordic beam of Sirius 3 in Scotland according to the Sirius website. I'm sure Analoguesat can confirm or not, he knows far more than me!

Sirius 3 is very weak here in south Scotland, I can just get some of the better transponders in good weather on my 1m dish.

(ive never got anything off Thor 3 at all...)

That's the way it goes sometimes as we know. I can get a decent sig from Thor3 in the early mornings from here. Just nipping the edge of the East Europe beam as you can see

Sirius 3 has been OK in Aberdeen with a 1.2 metre dish - as you can see it's right on the edge of the footprint. So I guess it all depends on where in Scotland you are located as to how much success you're likely to have.

Folks I can hardly believe that you face so much problems to receive Serius 3. Are your dishes setup properly ? Usually these official footprints are not really exact. And if it would be true in case of Sirius 3 the last EIRP is mentioned with 44 and that has a recommendation of 90 cm according to this:

Besides if the footprint is always that exact I guess we wouldn't pick up Nile sat at all since that footprint is much more south.

BBC on 2D for me, according to the footprint, I shouldn't be able to receive with 1,2 meter dish at all.

But you guy's should know better I guess what reception is like but perhaps the one or the other might give it a try to adjust his dish again ;-)

My 1m dish is set up just dandy Ive had the free Baltic channels off it on occasions, but the first hint of rainor heavy rain and the signals disappear.. Not bothered any longer though - that dish is being redeployed to 26E instead when Ive got a few minutes.

Don't forget to turn the LNB tilt (skew) if you have a fixed system. This is quite importend and lots of folks forget about this.
