My System: 0.3dB Fortec Star lnb, 90cm Fortec Star dish, Silver Crest SL65 receiver, Stab HH90 motor... | Well I got my system installed and working on 28E at Easter and on the basis of that success I bought a motor.... I installed the motor (a Stab HH90) a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't seem to find Thor 1W so I aligned the dish and motor to 28E using USALS in my SL65 receiver. This seems to work fairly well as I can move/pickup Sirius 5E through to Hellas Sat 2 39E (watching 13E as I type ) which seems to suggest I've (amazingly!) got it positioned about right for the arc, but as yet I've been unable to get it to find anything in the west without the motor doing strange things and those strange things have now spread to the East sats too....If I have the receiver on for any length of time and try to change sats, it sometimes moves OK, but other times it doesn't - it starts moving east to west continuously in decreasing amounts (as if it's searching for the sat?)until it stops and parks itself at Zero degrees. Once it's done that I have to unplug my receiver for over 30 minutes before the motor starts working again. Anyone got any ideas whats going on? Or have I got a duff motor?

My System: 0.3dB Fortec Star lnb, 90cm Fortec Star dish, Silver Crest SL65 receiver, Stab HH90 motor... | Obviously no-one has any ideas then, so I'm talking to myself! I've now found my system will even find Turksat at 42E OK too, so I've got an eastern arc of 42E, 39E, 28E, 19E, 13E and 5E, and I can get channels on all of 'em fine. Would those sats confirm my arc is OK, or are they just very strong and misleading me? The annoying thing is that when I tried to find 1W when I set it all up I kept finding 5W but even when the motor goes to 5W let alone 30W I get nothing now. I have started to wonder if I've now got a tree or something in the way instead I've since moved the receiver as it was getting a bit 'warm' but it and the motor still seem to stop talking to each other after the system has been on for a while, with the motor just going barmy for a few minutes before it gives up and stops at zero. Why does it do that and does USALS 'sense' a signal from the sat?

USALS can be a little bit troublesome, particularly if there is s receiver/motor mismatch, I am not a great fan of the STAB, perhaps you ought to try resetting the receiver and motor and have another go at finding 1W.

My System: 0.3dB Fortec Star lnb, 90cm Fortec Star dish, Silver Crest SL65 receiver, Stab HH90 motor... | Many thanks for that rolfw. I'm seriously beginning to suspect my neighbours tall prunus bushes now though - I came home tonight and noticed that his Sky minidish is now just below the guttering on his house, but it used to be mounted just above his patio doors! And it's only a month or so since the Sky bloke was there installing Sky+...... If the weather settles down a bit (not windy or too hot) I may have a go at finding 5W again first and if that works I'll try 1W again. The other thing I thought I might try is turning off all the motor settings for each sat and switching over to DisEcq from USALS, as although the receiver supports USALS it doesn't carry the official STAB USALS logo. It's easy to reset the receiver but the motor hasn't got any reset button or anything on it - I guess the only way to reset it is to disconnect it for a day or two.
