I've been playing with google earth and seem to have noticed that I may be able to get more than just Hispasat, so I'm attatching the pic I saved and modified for some smart people to have a look at and modify to show me what I can actually get (28.2e is out of the question as I'd have to be able to have my dish "seeing" over the roof and next door's chimney as my street is pinting between 25 and 30 degrees EoS...).

It's impossible to say that from a picture. You need to find out if there is a clear view to the sats from where your dish is. Then there is the issue of the dish size. If you could put up a 5m dish, you surely could get all sorts of stuff. But, if I was you I would try to find out if 30 west is in your sight, as this has been a sat with a lot of free stuff (not at the moment though). To do this, use a compass and have a look.

Errrrm, 30w is in my sight, that's what my dish is on at the moment......

If I set a dish up upstairs, LOS wouldn't be much of a problem until the satellites get too far south.

oops sorry 2CV did not notice the 30 West. Just try it out and see what you get. If you have space to fit a motor then get yourself a SG1200 for 60 Euros and play with it...

Depends if your set top box allows blind searching. If it does I would invest £25 in a decent satellite meter and start experimenting. (You'll most likely need the sat meter anyway to line up a motorised system.) Presume your dish is pole mounted so you can swing it around and make the elevation a bit (nudges) higher to aim for satellites further south. The meter will let you zoom in on the signals without undue stress. When you've found a signal of decent strength, get down to your tuner to see what you've found. I don't trust my compass, much prefer to use google earth to work out where the dish is pointing

... if no joy then resell the meter on FleaBay for a few quid less than you paid for it. I reckon you should be able to pick up a bit of French tv at least on Atlantic Bird 3 5W although virtually impossible to tell from your roof pic. Sadly no 2CV ads these days..

If your existing arc is correct you could start checking by nudging the dish either way in small amounts

Blind search is only about three years old, but many people have been searching for satellites without the feature for years.

Have a look at the aerial photo again, I live where the white lines converge and it's a back to back house, so I only have a mostly western view, although I did mean to say when the satellites get too far east for me to see indoors....

Also, Birdseye, I have a cheap beeper meter (as listed on the left which seems to be missed out often) which works very well for re-aligning my dish after my cat's swung on it (numpty!!!), but I haven't tried it on any other satellites yet...

Also I don't have the money for a Blind Search receiver (yet) so all I have are my analogue boxes and my Digital Nokia and Porty boxes...

But seeing how I'll probably be indoors most of the weekend I'll have a go at finding another satellite to watch, but I'm hoping (with a bit of luck) that I may be able to get 13e (minimum, 19e a possibility too) on a dish stuck outdoors, but whether I can have an outdoor dish or not is another matter (rented house you see)...

Okay you have all the kit you need. Just line up your dish pointing at whatever you can see on Google earth is in the right direction... bit of waggling with your dish until your meter bleeps a lot and then you should have something to look at.

The blind search isn't necessary but it saves you going down to smiths and getting a copy of 'what satellite' so that you can program your STB with the right channels. Obviously if your dish ain't pointing at the satellite that you think it is then you won't catch the channels you think you're getting and you'll just get frustrated, even though the meter is giving you a good signal Good luck!

Erm, I've been doing this for over a year now, so I know what I'm doing, and I know that I don't need a Wotsat mag (although I would like to have a sub but can't afford it) as there are a few online places that I can get the channel info from for free (Lyngsat, Flysat ect), I was just wondering if I could get access to the other satellites as my compass is useless in my house as it just spins around of it's own accord...

Anyway, once I can must up the botheredness, I'll be having a go with upside down and sidways mounting of my spare 60CM dish indoors for 5w...

Ok, seeing how the Hotbird lot have got/are getting some new satellites set up, would my little Porty kit dish pull in a decent signal now?

Depending on your dish size, you can get at least these sats:

- 30W
- 7W
- 5W
- 5E
- 7E
- 10E
- 13E
- 16E
- 19,2E
- 23,5E
- 26E
- 28,2E

I could (assuming I had a dish outdoors on a motor, but the landlord won't let me!!! ), but I just want the 3 I pointed out, and as of today, I now have 2 dishes up!!! Well, indoors still, but I now have 5w aswell as 30w!!!

There was one niggle when finding 5w, at first I picked up an encrypted analogue channel (which I later found to be Canal+) on 12606V, but I couldn't find anything else in analogue, so I swapped my LNB (humax .3dB) for my spare Humax (I have 2) thinking it was faulty, then switched the box on and waved the dish about and came across France5 on the exact same frequency!!! Then moving the dish a couple of degrees west I found Canal+ again, so I guess that was 7w, but it didn't half drive me up the wall!!!

Anyway, the next problem to solve is why I couldn't get the FranceTV channels on either my Nokia or my porty, unless I just have outdated TP info...

Next satellite: Hotbird!!! I've never managed to pick it up before so this'll be a first for me...

After a search through Lyngsat, it was 8w I was unwillingly picking up, but at least I now know it's easy to find!!!

5e's just out of view indoors, but when I got a dish outdoors I'll have a look...

As for big poles on the chimney, it's a case of getting permission and getting up there....
