what kind of paint for dish

hi guys,

i have a 1.6mtr dish and when i put it on the pole it looked awful, what i would like to do is paint it grass green or a very similar colour, is there any particular paint i should use so i dont lose any signal, also should i use a spray or a brush or doesn't it matter.

regards john

Matt car spray paint will be fine.
Use two different greens and get artistic.

If this is a steel dish, then you can use pretty much any paint, avoiding gloss finishes. A lot of people use commercial cellulose, many paint providers will mix a can for you to your colour preference. I have heard a couple of guys describing how they used Hammerite and achieved good results.

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

Don't forget that it MUST NOT be a metallic paint otherwise you'll end up messing up the reflecting properties of the dish...

i used acrylic red oxide colour on a channel master,it was fine,if you have any waxoil about use an old kichen baster to inject down inside the arm, this might seem fussy but its prone to corrode from inside and will help to prolong life.

paint

hi guys ,

thanks for the replys, i have looked round the town where i live (hartlepool) i cannot get nothing as far as matt spray paint is concerned, non metallic, lead free etc, i think i will have to find a speciallist paint shop, hopefully middlesboro or sunderland which are nearby might be a better proposition.

My System: Technosat 7765 Pace Digibox Disecq Switch Lenson 80cm Dish Two Universal LNB's

When I had a 1.6m motorised dish it looked very weathered after about 18 months so I had a quiet word with my local car repair shop and in exchange for a crispy £20 note the chap there gun sprayed a lovely shade of non metallic matt black on my dish and it looked superb. Maybe you could have a word with your local place or if you know a man who can then bonus. It saved me a lot of faffing about with acres of newspaper and painting a ruddy great ring on my patio or inside the garage. I think a few cans of spray would have cost nearly 20 quid from Halfords anyway.

Don't be too worried about total lack of metal content, as your dish is a metal one and the reflecting surface is only a few microns below the paint surface. It would be a different case if it were a composite dish.

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

I paid about £4 for a tin of matt black from my local car parts shop, I think it's usually for things like bumpers and Ford Capri bonnets or something...

My System: Technomate 5500DACPI, Lemon 80cm Mesh, Moteck 2100SG Lemon 0.2LNB..

Ford Polar Grey car paint from Halfords. A couple of cans for a mesh dish. Any of their stuff will work. Looks much better than having 'Lemon' written on it!

My System: Technomate TMS-1500 CI+ "patched" receiver, 90cm p/f 36v motorised dish, Inverto C120 0.3db LNB, Moteck V-Box 2, Packard Bell 6052 XP Home computer, Toshiba A60 laptop, and lots of Russian Vodka !

Have you also tried looking in your local yellow pages for industrial paint sprayers, as they MIGHT spray it for you with stoving enamel for a small fee.

It doesn't take long to sand down and spray a dish and then have it stoved off in an oven (at 120c no danger of dish bending), that's what I did with mine.

Not the pictures I intended, but the two on the outside is after spraying, and the one in the middle is how I brought it.
If your lucky like me you will get it sprayed for nothing.

PS:- Would not advise having your dish, especially if it's solid, powder coated as the polyester powder needs stoving at 200c and that might well distort your dish.

It is very easy john, you click on post reply, you go advanced and click on manage attachments, then using the browse button, you find the photo on your hard drive and click upload.

yes i will definately do that with just a bit of time please, whats on my mind at the moment is trying to improve the signal on nilesat, at the moment as i am speaking wenesday morning 0.35 am, mbc is on 53% to 54%, one tv is on 52% using a 0.3 triax lnb, i have been told to use an inverto c120 0.2 universal lnb and a feedhorn kit for a prime focus dish which i have got (fortec star) hopefully i can get that and help improve the signal, the signal holds out to 40% then it starts to break up.

Don't think they do a C120 0.2 LNB, could be wrong.
If I'm right go for the Inverto White Tech C120 0.3db universal LNB, which is the same as mine and a few other members, who have said good things about it.

My signal quality jumped 3% to 7% on all channels after I changed mine to an Inverto, and my old LNB wasn't a bad one by any means.
Got mine from Wizardsatellite, think that is the only place that sells them.
It does say 0.4 on the website but it is a .0.3 as it says on the box and LNB.

A big yes to this. I live by the sea and it rains the same as everywhere else. I waxoil'd everything out of sight when I installed both my motorised dish and quad lnb sky dish.

I still squirt everything from time to time as the salt air has a laugh with everything.

My cars and caravan get a squirt as well [sorry if this is the wrong thread for cars and caravans-I could say they each had a satellite on them, but that would be a lie except in the case of the caravan]
