hello

welcome to the forum romy20maky

To be honest you are asking a question which is very difficult to answer since everyone has different requirements. There are many excellent stb's around but some require a basic knowledge of computers and indeed Linux. Others just need you to learn about a trex or dragon cam. It is not possible to answer it depends on what you want to watch and what you can afford to buy.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos I'm a lazy git. Porty dish face blew off the mount, not too pleased...

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

Personally speaking, there can't be one sole "best receiver", as there are different features suited to different users and setups, for example, my Nokia 9800S is perfect for me, it has DiSEqC, the interface is nice to use, I like the casing style (like the old OnDigital Nokia 9850T boxes), and it's just an easy to use box (once it has the MA2.0 software on it). My porty on the other hand is sluggish, the interface is a bit gareish and some of the settings are a bit fiddly, but it's good for finding satellites and sorting the Signal Quality out (when skewing), which is a bit difficult to do on the nokia. So the best thing to do is just try different boxes, buy, try, sell & replace...

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

No, there is not a receiver which "can break encryption of most channels", the receiver is only as good as the software patch written for it, so whichever receiver you buy, its ability to decrypt channels will depend on A), which channels are accessible at any given time and B), whether there has been a software patch written for it.

Have a look in the Receiver software section and read some of the bigger threads about individual receivers, this will give you an idea about what is available and what does what.
