Installer questions...

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting some kind of motorised dish on my roof. Currently I have a monoblocked dish in the back garden tuned in on 13E and 19.2E, but need to get out west for Nasa footage (currently on 12.5W) which is over the houses - so to speak. No experience of installers so thought I'd ask here.. generally speaking, will installers visit and see if the satellites you want are attainable from your particular location, before advising which motor/dish to use? Any idea of the typical fee they charge just for a visit to assess the situation?

Sorry for vagueness!

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Some will come and have a look without charge, but you must be prepared to fit in with their timing and be prepared for fairly short notice. Others will charge a first hour charge, which may be as much as £50.

Thanks. I want them to come checkout the view and make sure I can get from 12.5W to 13/19.2/28.2E, then I can buy a dish, motor and installation from them.

Gotta a feeling my credit card is getting nervous with the potential cost!

as you have sky *28east then look to the right of the dish and see whether to have line of sight for hotbird and astra 1 if so should be ok

why not give us pics of your surroundings if possible to help out

Hi,

I currently get Hotbird and Astra 1 from a dish on a fence post in my back garden (Space setup in the garden) with a monoblock. Works very well. Just want to 'head out west' mainly to get the Nasa transmissions relayed on Atlantic Bird 12.5W by ESA. The current setup hits the house any further west than what I'm getting, and I've tried the same dish from a 1st floor window opening on the west/front side of the house but I think it hits the houses across the road as I can't find anything else. Hence my reason for thinking of getting a motor/dish installed on the roof to get the whole lot.
