5W (Atlantic Bird 3) Troubles...

Ok, no matter how hard I try, I just cannot get the FranceTV channels on my nokia or porty, I've fiddled with the dish, skewed the LNB, swapped the cable, fiddled with the dish again, but to no avail. On my Nokia (under the Telecom 2C settings as that seems to be pre-loaded as 5w) I don't get anything for 11591V 20000 2/3, and on my porty I get 40% signal quality for about 5 seconds then is dissapears to nothing. Is it a case of the symbol rate being lower than the boxes can handle or is my 60cm dish too small for 5w?

My System: PACE 430 (Radio Reception only to feed a SKY Gnome), PACE 3100 (PVR 2.5), ROI SKY 6 mixes, Technomate TM-1500 CI+, TM-6900 HD, 100 cm Triax (Sky), 80 cm Nokia with Motec SG-2100. MacBook and that's that.

According to eutelsat's footprint map (h**p://www.eutelsat.com/satellites/5wab3_popd.html) you should be ok size wise.

I pick up the channels in France on my 80cm dish without any problems with 98% quality on my Technomate.

Maybe a stupid question but, can you pick up any other sats with your setup or is it only 5W that's the problem?

I can but they're not very clear (the MSS1000 has met an untimely end though, it "accidentally" rolled down the stairs... useless bloomin' thing) and I've tried skewing, waving, wiggling and repositioning the dish but they're all the same, rather weak. Maybe it's the glass, the dish is on quite an angle against the window so maybe the Vertical channels are being reflected off it or something? I managed to get to see my first live(ish) feed on one of the Globecast feeds channels the other day, and that was perfect, not one pixel out of place...

Hmm, I think I might just have to get a motorised setup on the chimney or somewhere over the roofline at least....

Hmmm, you never mentioned that the dish was inside the house pointing at 5W through a window. That would explain why your reception is not very good...

Have you tried outside?

I thought everyone knew I had my dishes indoors?

I would, but I have no garden space (my door opens straight onto the street and the house is a back-to-back house so there's a neighbour on 3 sides...) and I'm not allowed to have a dish up outdoors (at the moment, need to sweet talk the landlord...)...

so if you was allowed to put up a dish would you still get a range of satellites as sounds like your house is in a bad position for your sat hunting hobby ?

If I could get one up on the chimney stack or above the roofline I could have a motorised setup going from as far east as possible to as far west, but that's very unlikely....

So yes, house in a terrible place, I did say that I wanted somewhere south-facing but noooo, my mum had to pick that house when I was at work....
