How do you crimp Snap & Seal connectors professionally?

I have about 50 Snap & Seal connectors, 100m of satellite cable, and I've even got the compression tool for the connectors. So I've got everything I need.

My question is, how do I crimp these connectors properly?

How much of the outer sheathing should I take off?
How much of the copper braids should I take off?
What about the foil shielding?

Has anyone got a picture of how to crimp professionally?

Thanks.

Right forum, it's just most of us just use screw-on F connectors, snap and seal are too fiddly (as you say, how much of the core & shielding to expose) and usually used on cable TV systems...

Sorry. missed the question, it's about 8/9mm of core and 5/6mm of outer, then fold back the braid and compress the fitting. It doesn't have to be exact and you can always cut off excess core.

I always use thomas & betts snap and seal connectors best thing is they are water waterproof & very high qulity and are much better then screw on type but beware there are diffrent connectors for diffrent cable, E.G one for rg6. one for rg11 another for ct100 & ct125 and ct150 so you must make sre you get the right type,

here is a guide how to fit them go to the last page of the PDF below

It says that you should fold back the copper braids. What about the foil? Should you fold that back too? Cuz I'm sure it'll snap if I tried.

Does the connector go between the foil and foam dielectric... or over the foil?

I brought the Snap & Seal connectors several months ago, and I brought the compression tool last week.

I'll see if there are some on Ebay now and I'll post the link up.

I got my compression tool for only £7 last week. I typed "compression tool" in Ebay and nothing that cheap is coming up.

And I can't see the Snap & Seal connectors at all.

hm...

All high qulity snap & seal's are water proof but i always put a bit of tape on them any way, They ain't that hard to fit i had to make up a few 2 meter leads the other night for a job and my 5 year old did most of the connectors on there if she can do it you will not have any problems,

best place to buy them is Ebay us but bewarned the high qulity tools are expensive, I always use thomas and betts myself,

here is a tools same ones as i have don't bother with the cheap ones as they dont last long

when fitting the connector does the center part of the connector slip under the copper foil on wf100 cable as how do they fit before compressing ?

as you dont want to get the foil or braid stuck in the connector when compressing it or do you cut it off ?

any one got some pics of a stripped cable before hand ?

Here is some pics for you, As you can see cut the coax push the f-con on so the smaller cener bit of the f-con goes over the center foil be careful no to snag the ali/copper foil and then seal the f-con job done,

With WF100 you will need to peel off the copper foil, it is too thick to go inside the connector and gives you real problems when trying to push the connector home, RG6 as Rd100 shows, will work without removing the foil.

Yes it is a pain with wf100 but you can peel the foil off if you have problems with the wrong size f-cons but this is due to rg6 f-cons thomas & betts do UK grade f-cons for wf100 & wf125 which are different sizes to the USA & standard rg6 ones

also do a

yeah but i'm stuck with this as you strip the cable but how far do you push it on as its pushing the braid and foil down under neath the outer sleeve of the cable when i try to push the cable up to the top of the connector

wish i hadn't bothered as looks more trouble than its worth

this is doing my head in as what size do i strip the cable to as i have the same stripper as in those pics because the connector wont push up to the end

is that enough in the pic below

do i need to cut the outer sheath so the connector will allow the foam dielectric to push right up to the end of the connector as when i push the connector on it just pushes the foil and braid further into the cable

rd100 you mention t&b do wf100 snap n seal where can i get some of those ?

Click on individual thumbnails to enlarge them

Strip the cable, about 1/4" on both sections

cable1.jpg

Fold back the braid

cable2.jpg

If you try the connector now with the foil, it will bundle up the foil as in the picture above, so strip it off

cable3.jpgcable4.jpg

Push on the connector with the braid still pulled back over the outer, a warm cable makes it easier

cable5.jpg

Then crimp.
