Opinions on my new setup

Hi,

I am thinking of buying the following setup. I would like a motorized system and I am based in the czech republic. I am a relative newbie to sat tech but know my way around systems generally as a software engineer.

1x Dreambox 500 S - Alps tuner
1x Dish 85 Fe
1x Globo Digital 6100S single 0,2dB
1x Motor DiSEqC STI-2100 (1348.00 Kč)

With all the leads etc to connect it.

Could any of you experts give you opinion as to if there is anything obviously wrong. I know that officially the Dreambox 500 s is not designed to use a DiSEqC motor, but have ready several posts on here where people are using the same motor without problems, and I can't afford the more expensive model.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Fraggle.

If he were not a wizard, from head down to the root, you would have got to worry-your DB only boots

Sounds fine to me (I know nothing about LNBs or dishes). 500s works with a diseqc motor and the newer 500s has a bigger psu.

Thanks mhku for the feedback.

After reading some more I am thinking of a slight variation:

1x Dreambox 500 S - Alps tuner
1x Dish 85 Fe
1x BigSAT Universal Single BS-201
1x Digipower - SG 2100 - Moteck

swapping the

1x Globo Digital 6100S single 0,2dB for 1x BigSAT Universal Single BS-201 as I guess I need a universal lnb to get the most use of out a motorized system.

and

1x Motor DiSEqC STI-2100 (1348.00 Kč) for 1x Digipower - SG 2100 - Moteck as this seems to be the specific model other people on here have mentioned several times when using the dreambox 500 s.

More reading, less understanding ;)

So I've been reading more about lnbs and now I am more confused. I was under the impression that single, double, quad etc would allow you to point at more satellites at one time. Obviously not that useful for a motorised system. However I've been looking through some sites and the double, quad lnbs I saw were actually one single unit.

So my question is, if I have a motorised system, do I need more than a single lnb. Does having more than a single increase signal gain etc. Also what is the significance or universal or not, I think it's something to do with polarity but I am not sure. Are all lnb's universal these days.

Any help greatfully recieved.

Cheers

Fraggle.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

With just one receiver on a motorised dish, a single universal LNB is what you need.

Twin and Quad LNBs simply have multiple outputs to feed more receivers or twin tuner receivers, they are similar in performance to the equivalent single LNB.

The ones which point at two satellites are called monobloc LNBs (sometimes incorrectly called twin or dual) and are no good for a motorised system.
