It's a Gibertini Polar Mount with a Superjack 12 inch actuator. Anybody see anything wrong with what I've done? Thanks people! Last edited by femto; 02-10-2006 at 11:33 PM

Surely someone here has fitted a jack to a Gibertini polar mount?? It appears to drive the mount okay - I was just wondering if anyone with experience in the assembly of such a thing thinks it's done correctly. The mount has already been set so that it tracks the arc as I set it up, without the motor attached, on a ground pole which I know is dead plumb. I thought I'd be best to set the angles up before I'm at the top of a ladder! I got good signals from Turksat 1C at 42E, 28.2E nearly bent the needle off the meter, as did 19.2E and 13E. 10E was an easy catch, as were 7E 5E 1W 5W 8W and 30W. I think that 43W was obsured by the house over the street from the ground pole as I only saw a slight lift on the meter as I passed what I thought was 43W but even if I can't see that bird, I'll not be too disappointed. I think I've got the angles on the mount and the dish right as I'm seeing 42E, all the middle satellites and right through to 30W. I don't think I tried to find 36E or 23.5E but if I don't get anything from them once the dish is on the pole upside the house, I'll look into that later. Any comments on whether I've fitted the jack in the right way will be useful, thanks.

My System: Echostar AD3000-IP, Manhattan Plaza ST100, Gibertini 1m Dish, Inverto Silver Tech 0.2, Polar Mount, 12 Inch Actuator, Dragon CAM | Excellent stuff, Crossbones! Thanks very much. The only difference that I can see is that I have put the jack on the opposite side and in the picture the extending part of the jack is underneath the arm on the polar mount rather than on top, where I put it. I'll try moving the jack to underneath and see if it makes much of a difference. Although.... I dont suppose it matters too much so long as the jack is bolted on in such manner as to make sure it's straight, i.e. not attached to the bracket at a funny angle. Just waiting for my ladder to come back and I'll be putting this lot up. I'll post some pictures when I'm done and I'll give a report on what I can receive. Thanks again.

Also put the mount on 1*w and mount the actuator half way like in the pic. Get some pics up m8 when its installed ![]() Good luck

If the jack is clamped in that position, the jack arm is fully retracted when the dish is pointing at Thor. Surely this would mean that there is no travel available to go any further west - only east. The only direction that the jack can move in from its current position is outwards, which will drive the dish round to the east....or am I missing something. Do you not have to set the actuator to half way through its travel before clamping it down at 1W?

I then connected to the receiver and set the east and west limits. There's still enough travel to go right past 30W and I think the eastern limit is something like 55E. I know the polar mount and dish backplate are set at the correct angles so as the motor drives the mount fine, I'm assuming that the setup is okay. I will however reposition the end of the jack so it is underneath the arm on the polar mount as in Crossbones' attachment. P.S. My ladder arrived this morning so I will be able to put the pole up either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to the end result (so long as it's a good result!!)

Should give you years of use, mine's been running smoothly for fifteen years in all weathers: just smear the piston with a little silicone grease occasionally, and make sure the locknut at the dish end doesn't work loose (can happen). I've put some pictures in the "Picture Forum of Member's Setups" with some more details fo this installation. Just got to make sure my mounting brackets are sufficient. No doubt some of the installers on the site will have some thoughts.
