How big a pole?

I'm planning on putting a 1.2 / 1.25 m antenna on my wall. My area is rather windy so I'm a bit worried about what to hold it with. In my parents' house I had a 1.1m antenna with a baby wall support and never had any trouble over almost 10 years. but I think I need something stronger. I was told a basic "L" shaped steel support would do the trick, but still I don't know. Will it hold up?
