DiSEqC motorized system with multiple receivers?

Hi there,

I'm new here, so please be gentle I had a look to see if this query has been answered already, but I couldn't find anything.

I am looking to install a motorized system (DiSEqC motor) at home, with a multiswitch and receivers in a three rooms.

Now the antenna will have a quattro LNB feeding a multiswitch (I'm looking at the Spaun SMS 5549, which is a 5 x 4).

My question is, given that the DiSEqC motor mount only sits in-line of one of the four coaxials going to the LNB, how can it be guaranteed that the signal to turn the motor gets to the motor - e.g. if the receiver wants to tune to a band/polarity that is different to the one that the motor is in-line with?

Do the DiSEqC commands for the motor get sent up all four outputs of the multiswitch?

It must be possible to have a motorized system with more than one receiver?

Thanks in advance,
Graeme.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

No it isn't I'm afraid.

The multiswitch route will not work, as I cannot see how you would get the DiseqC commands to the motor.

Sorry, small sorrection, yes it is possible to have a motorised system with more than one receiver, but not with a multiswitch, you would need a quad or Octo LNB. You would however still only be able to watch one satellite at a time.

Thanks for the quick reply Rolf.

Of course, I understand that I will be able to watch channels from one satellite at a time. I was wondering exactly how the switch worked for controlling the motor.

If I go with a quad LNB and more than one receiver, don't I still have the issue of how to guarantee geting the signal to the motor?

Thanks again.

No, you would have one receiver linked via the motor, the others would have to rely on the commands from the controlling receiver, there's no way you can mix and match.

Ok, thanks Rolf - that's helped my understanding a lot.

Now I just need to find a local installer. They're like hen's teeth if you want anything other than standard Sky!

Cheers,
Graeme.

LOL, isn't that always the case.

I think the nearest installer in our classified directory is near Sterling, so not too close either.

I have a few more to try, there's plenty in the Yellow Pages. Hopefully I will get some joy in the end.

Thanks again for your help.
