Old dish, 500+ channels....

Now this really confuses me, I thought that the LNB attatched to the dish I'm using ATM was an Enhanced type (9.75GHz LO), but doing an Auto Scan with my SL65 has come up with loooooads of channels which my PortyII didn't, but anyways, the signal quality is crap (for want of a better word), which may be something to do with the old cable or the fact that the dish face is slowly rusting up (it's an old AmstradFidelity mesh dish, not the longest survivor of the Amstrad family!!!), but either way, it's surprised me!!!

My System: pentium 4 3.06ghz with ht, 1 gb ram, ss2, 1.15m motor dish, strong srtv50

Amstrad? that company still exits? ? the only other Amstrad thing I know was my first computer- a second hand "Amstrad", with a monochrome green display, ability to run NES-like games, and a disk drive and keyboard in one! the screen and cpu were also one, like a Mac.

amstrad now make microwave ovens and stuff. imagine my horror the other day when I saw one. I had to get close to make sure it WAS a microwave and not a fancy computer monitor. we are so old to remember them aren't we?

well, you can try painting the dish, but it would probably be a waste of time and money, but if you wave the right tools already and know a little about it, it shouldn't hurt. you can replace the LNB and replace the cables as they could be rather beaten up by time and tou are back in business. does it have a motor? if so, it's a deal made in heaven....

They probably work equally as badly as each other, at their own jobs and each others.

Errrrm, it's an old old sky dish from about 1992-1995, so no motor (something sky doesn't want people to have, but have no control over... ), and the dish is over nextdoor's house so I'd need their permission to go up onto their roof, AND I'd need a cat ladder to get to the dish safely (steep roof you see), and the LNB was going to be replaced, but the idea was abandoned about 2 years ago...

Anyway, after looking through the channel list, it appears the SL65 seems to have repeated the same channels about 2 or 3 times each, so there's only about 150-200 actually available that are FTA...

Just need to try my Porty dish here too for 28.2e...
