My System: Triax TD88 (95cmx85cm), Technomate 1600 super, 0.2LNB, Moteck2100 motor. |
When searching to get a set up as cheap as possible, I have seen many offers on fleabay for motorised dishes and LNB's at reasonable prices. I am aware that the quality of these makes a big difference to the reception. Can anyone advise what types of LNB and dish to avoid, and what types are reliable? For example when I see a motorised dish and LNB on fleabay, are these likely to be any good at this price? Sorry but I am a complete novice and don't want to get ripped off. Thanks

My System: Dbox + Skystar2, 2.2m Kinhuge Dish with Inverto LNB and Invacom ADF-120 feedhorn. Pace 1.3.25 and 80cm for Sky. | Even cheap, crap but new dish / LNB combinations tend to pull signals in, so I would avoid any with LNBs over 3 years old. As long as the dish isn't significantly warped you should be OK. Generally bigger is better, but in my experience the sensitivity of the receiver is more important. For one of my installations I got an end of line analogue receiver / dish combo, shelved the receiver and used to 80cm dish (cost about 25 Euros including LNB). So my advice is to go with a big cheap dish / LNB and then be a bit more choosy with your receiver selection.

Blog Entries: 3 My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum. | I would disagree, as whilst the receiver is important, the dish and LNB are at the front end of the system and any signal shortfalls caused by low quality equipment, are echoed throughout the system. Similarly, a good robust signal, provided by a quality dish and LNB, will provide good results from even the most basic of receivers. ![]() I think that the expression "Garbage in, Garbage out" applies.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos I'm a lazy git. Porty dish face blew off the mount, not too pleased... The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken! | I agree with rolfw, buy some quality equipment & fixing kit and it'll last you a lifetime... Cheap stuff can be tempting at times, but when it comes to actually using it, it can turn out to be useless at it's job...

My System: Triax TD88 (95cmx85cm), Technomate 1600 super, 0.2LNB, Moteck2100 motor. | So what about a set up like this? Ebay It seems quite a good price, but is it likely to have a good signal? Cheers (appologies if links are not allowed)
