Advice when buying secondhand dishes...

I recently bid on and won a Kathren CAS90 dish on a well-known auction site.

It arrived today, but unfortunately on inspection I noticed some dinks around the edge on the surface dish, as well as some distortion due to the rim having been bent. Also, the dish seemed warped, either that or the whole dish is curved horizontally.

I had emailed the seller previously about making sure the dish was delivered undamaged, but it seems the damage was there already. As agreed, I refused the delivery and the dish is now on it's way back to seller. I have to wait and see what happens next - I should easily get a refund for the dish, but may have problems getting the postage costs refunded, unless the seller can claim on the postal insurance.

Anyway, the moral of the story is don't buy second-hand dishes online unless you can go and collect it yourself (I knew this already, but thought I'd be ok - how wrong was I?)

EDIT: I just want to add I bought a couple of fibos online, which I collected myself, and they were both in great condition. I was hoping to do a straight comparison between the Kathrein dish and the fibo 90cms with the intention of posting the results on here, but it looks like it's not going to happen

EDIT2: After scrutinising some pics of CAS90s online, it looks like they do have a curve to them - still not happy about the dinks around the edge tho

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos I'm a lazy git. Porty dish face blew off the mount, not too pleased...

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

My mesh 80cm dish had a couple of dinks on the rim, but it was to be expected as it came out of a skip, I just pulled them out and rounded off the edges and the dish is fine...

Just need a pair of Tripods, one for each 80cm...

Unfortunately, these dinks were in the dish face, not the rim. Also, in the right light you could see that the dish face was distorted slightly where the rim had been dented.

Not good.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 5 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/13E/16E /19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

One of my dishes required the attention of mole grips and a 2lb lump hammer! Its now my 5E dish and in daily use !

(some kids had jumped on it and it was bent double....)
