OLED Front Display Upgrade.

Hi peeps. Happy new year. Whilst looking how I might repair the backlight on one of my 7025's I came across the OLED upgrade kit. This is a full new replacement front panel including a new OLED display unit. The display does not have a backlight as its OLED , its very vivid and miles better than the original LCD display. I can highly recommend it. You can get it from Mark Hemming at _http://www.satstore.co.uk I'm pretty sure its the same unit to fit to any 7000 series box.

Its not cheap at £60 delivered but its very nice.

Check out a couple of photos I took.

My System: Dreambox 7025+ with LT5, Penta 85 dish, Sky+

For those seeking to buy a Dreambox (like me!), I believe this is the only difference between the 7025 and new 7025+.

Nice

It does look nicer, the new OLED display, but I wouldn't bother up dating an old style 7025 just for that, especially not at a cost of £69. You can adjust the display parameters of the old style 7025 and I rarely look at the LCD as the on screen displays (by pressing the select button) are clearer and more detailed.

OLED Upgrade

Yeah I agree its a little expensive. If my backlight hadn't failed I would not have bought it.

As for the 7025+ it has the OLED display, an eject lever on the CI slot and an uprated powe supply which I guess would be better for the dvdrom drive upgrade.

I have a 7000 and 7025+ sat on top of each other like that. The OLED does look a lot nicer and is easier to read from the other side of the room.

After a little playing around I can now control my TV and each Dreambox seperately using just one Dreambox remote. So there is now no need for me to keep covering up one of the infra red receivers so the remote did not change channel on both boxes at once. I was getting a little fed up having to get out of my chair to cover up the other box when I wanted to switch box.

The best thing about it was setting the volume punch through on the remote so when I have the remote set on dream the volume button buttons still work the TV volume.

I had this problem before with two Nokia STBs.
I think that there is a plugin that one can use, when there is more than one Dreambox in the room. Perhaps this is what you are using?
Not sure what it will do and can't test it since I have only ond DB.

But using one remote to control both boxes and TV, this is really clever.

The standard LCD is pretty much useless at looking at from a distance.

It looks cheap and i don't understand why they didn't make it bigger like the Vantage 7100 display.

Remotes

Yeah you can install DBSwitch on both boxes. Available from blue panel in GP2 images. Using this you can lock one box so it doesn't respond to the remote. Then lock the other when needed. Using a different pin code to re enable each box. Nice simple plugin.

Nice one with the volume Boncechops, how did you do that mate ?

I don't use a plugin to control the 2 boxes seperately. You can program Dreambox remote controls using either a JP1 or a JP1.2 cable (depending on version of remote - there are 4) and a PC.

My Dreambox remote now controls a 7000, 7025, my TV and a DVD player. I press dream for the 7025 and shift-dream for the 7000.

I had to edit a file on the 7000 to tell it to respond to a different set of remote codes for it to work and program the remote.

Could you explain how to find out which cable I need mate please. How do I know which remote I have ?

EDIT:- I looked it up. Wonderful thing google ! Anyhoo I've got a JP1.2 cable coming my way. I'll have a play around and let you know my findings. Looking forward to something else to play around with. I also hoping I'll be able to program my spare DM remote to run my dbox2 and tv in the bedroom. That would be nice.

OK thanks for the offer mate. I'm waiting delivery of my JP1.2 cable from canada at the moment. When that arrives I'll have a play around and see how I go. I'm looking to program my remote to work both my DM7025's, seperatley ofcourse, and my Sony Bravia. Once I've done that, it would be nice if I could use my spare DM remote to control my dbox2 and philips telly in my bedroom.

I use one Dream remote downstairs and one upstairs to work the 7000 and 7025.

You will have to work out how to make a 7025 accept the different RC codes. It was easy on the 7000, you need to edit the rcdm7000.xml file to change the remote codes it accepts.

I don't know how to do this on a 7025. I will have look around.

Thanks for the headstart with that mate. I'm just looking through some xml files now. I've found a couple of candidates simply based on the name of them. There's 2 files that jump out at me.

1. remotecontrol.xml
2. keymap.xml

I'm inclined to think the second is most likely to be what I'm looking for. There's 3 instances of keymap.xml in different folders, and the contents of each do differ. I need to learn a little more when my cable and software comes.

I think you will find the Remotecontrol.xml is the map between the web based remote control and the real remote control.

Right mate thanks for that. Here's something. First things first, how do you get the remote into AUX mode ?

Secondly mate, this thread is getting somewhat hijacked , therefor I've started a new one on the subject of JP1 and remotes. Check it out here.
