Watching Internet TV Streams on Dreambox

Hi all,
Ive been trying to find a way of watching TV streams via my dreambox.
It seems a logical thing to do having a direct connection to the internet. I was hoping I could use the dreambox to watch tv media streams such as real-media format, asx and perhaps utilise the shoutcast TV channels.
Has anyone managed to view internet TV streams on their dreambox and if so how? There is a VLC client plugin on the box but its not like the standard VLC client that allows you to tap in the internet tv streaming address.

An example stream would be:

rtsp://helix10.rtvslo.si/broadcast/slo1.rm

Please let me know if you have any ideas....

The logical thing would be to use a web browser.
Unfortunately the Links Web Brouser plugin is basically textual so I doubt if it would be able to show the streams.

Shame. It would be great to watch all the internet TV streams via dreambox. Im dabbing with VLC media player to see if I can encode an mpeg and read it on the fly from the dreambox..

This is the solution, i'll use sopcast as the example:

- Play sopcast and choose a channel, usually on most players you'll find the url you need by pressing properties on the picture.

- Sopcast's url is: http://127.0.0.1:8902

- Open VLC, go to file, network stream, choose the 3rd option http/https/ftp/mms

- Place the url: http://127.0.0.1:8902

- Press ok, now it should be showing the stream that's being played on sopcast.

- In VLC press view, playlist, on the play list choose manage and save playlist.

- Save the play list to your pc making sure it is saved as .asf

- You can now go to the web-interface and play this file and soon enough you'll see the image on your tv.

The TVU url is: http://127.0.0.1:8901

Tvants works the same way but u'll have to do this with every channel... i know...

I did this through a db500 so it should work for everyone.

There you have it, one more feature.

Enjoy!

thanks for the info mate, ive been trying for ages to get this to work, but after hours of trying your way ive still failed.
im having a problem with the last part of you explanation.
the part about going to the web interface and playing the saved file.
i cant figure out how to do this, also how will the dreambox switch to this file when its played?
do you use vlcf? or do you see the playing file in file mode like you do with recordings or avi's that you have downloaded?
thanks. ian.

There's nothing to it. Just check out the site below and it will be shown to you.

About filemode and vlcf, i'm not sure, haven't tried it since i don't use them. But save the file as .ts or .mpeg instead of .asf, save it to the movie folder and play it through file mode and vlcf and let us know if it works. I'm not at home at the moment so i can't try...

Hope this helps!

ok ive sussed it.
once i understood the basic principles i was able to get vlcf 1.80 to open the saved .asf file and so do away with the need for the web interface altogether.this is a far better option as all the needed info to give a great picture is in the xml file that you edited when you installed the plugin,ie vb,fps, resolution, codecs ect.also you can pause the stream too.ian.

I'm trying to get this going without success. I open tvu player. the vlc on the pc and put in the tvu ip and port and get vlc on the pc to work but don't know what to do after that.
I downloaded the lates vlc for the dm500 but don't know exactly how to edit the xml file.
Which ip address do you put in, tvu's or another?
what password am i entering?

(im using gemini and ccam latest)

you need to install vlcf 1.80 in your dreambox and configure the xml file to your requirements ie your pc's ip and dvd drives ect.
i take it you have mounted your pc's drive to the dreambox?
you then need to create yourself a .asf file with content similar to this.

#EXTM3U
_http://content.fliqz.com/content/72e7593b41c4525a6d5ca4afc9ca77ef.flv

the address there is to an episode of reaper.but in your case you just right click on the playing internet tv channel to obtain the url.
then replace the addy ive suplied with what you obtain.it will be something like
_http://127.0.0.1:8090
ian.

My System: Dream box laptop and pc

thanks for your reply. I still can't get it going. When I run the vlcf front end on the dream box it says server not availible. I know its running the xml becase it tells me to check my settings and file path and it puts the file path from the xml file on the tv screen.

I do have my pc drive succesfully mounted under C:\movies and thats the path I put in the xml.

Do you have to open up ports on your router? I opened 8080 9090 and put in my dream box IP. should I put my Pc IP?

Do I have to change any of the vlcf player preferences? I changed input server port to 8080.

Do I use the same user and password as i do in my cifs mount setup? I did.

The vlcf front end just can't see my pc or can't log on for some reason

I really need to get this working. I have hundreds of channels but still just watch TVU player all day.

Thx

don't bother with it, i have tried endlessly to get this working properly, the software still isn't developed properly and is very buggy. Often ends up in a box or enigma reboot.

I'd just the best thing to do is look into something else until it improves.

Hi Friends,

I cannot play this with vlc :-

http://127.0.0.1:8902/

The Message says "cannot be connected".

Any other site I can try ? If I can run something on vlc I have an idea of how to stream to the dreambox.

Cheers, pcd.

You sure you've followed the instructions above to the letter. Did you save the file as .asf? Make sure sopcast is running on some channel right click the image and click properties to see if you've got the right ip and port.

Hope this helps!

p.s. looks like you may have an extra / at the end of the address "http://127.0.0.1:8902/", try this: http://127.0.0.1:8902

Merlin of the Idiot Guide

Hi Friends,

I got the internet thing working ! I did the following :-

(1) Already had installed VLC mediaplayer (0.86) from http://www.videolan.org/. Configure VLC by Settings > Preferences > Interface > Main Interfaces > Advanced options > select 'Extra interface modules' HTTP. Next expand Main Interfaces and in HTTP Host Address insert :8080. Close VLC.

(2) Plugin Stream2db. Unzip and ftp the .so and .cfg files to /var/tuxbox/plugins and the .xml file to /var/tuxbox/config (for openembedded - location depending on the image). Also ftp libcurl.so.2 to /var/lib (/usr/lib for oe). Chmod all 755. Edit in the pc ip in the .xml file. Reboot dreambox. This plugin works for 5620, 600 and 500, possibly 7000 and 7020. I tested the internet streaming on the 600.

(3) Installed and logged in to SopCast. Select a Live Channel and rightclick to play. Rightclick on the screen and select Properties and copy the Location. Start VLC mediaplayer -> File -> Open Network Stream and paste the Location url to HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS. Select Stream/Save and Settings. At the top of the Settings window - copy and paste this line :-

:sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=1024,width=352,hei ght=288,acodec=mpga,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{d st=std{access=http,mux=ts,ttl=6,url=:9090/dboxstream}} --sout-keep

Selecting OK twice and keep VLC mediaplayer (and the SopCast play) running.

(4) At the dreambox - start plugin Stream2db and the internet stream will play after a short buffering.

Apart from internet, this plugin will stream anything (video, playlist, dvd etc) playing on the VLC medaplayer. Please read the Readme for details.

Regards, pcd.

My System: Dm7000

Hi PCD,

have been trying on Dm7000 with latest PLI jade image.

The installed movieplayer disappeared from my plugin list.
Starting it I get undefined symbol _ZN7decoder5FlushEV

Any ideas?

Many thanks for your help, I m trying to get the Dbox to just start waiting for a stream and play it, as I could not do it with the installed pli movieplayer.

I now tried the latest Gemini image, that one does not give the error.
It says buffering video stream... please wait.

need to check further.

tx
