New NDS Cards?

First off: Admins, if this is in the wrong thread, please move it forthwith.

Right, I've done a search and can't find anyone here discussing Sly UK issuing new subscriber cards, currently estimated to be April this year. Its been discussed at ds forums and it looks like Sky staff are having their's issued immediately.
What are peoples thoughts on how the Dreambox and CCCam et al will handle these new cards? Are we suspecting that the encryption routines have been modified to break these 'work arounds' to force people into using their Sky Cards.

I'm certainly hoping that they're just refreshed cards, rather than complete reworkings. It will be annoying going back to the Crappy Sky Box and only having unencrypted stuff on the DB, at least until the clever guys writing the CCCam type software work out how to tweak it, especially because, as far as I'm concerned, the Sky Encryption is unbroken and we're all good boys and girls and continue to pay our subscriptions.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

There is a card swap coming. That much we know. Anything else is just guesswork at the moment.

My System: Irish Sky sub, Freesat HD from 28.2 East, BIS 5W and a Motorised Dish with a HTPC holding it all together

I currently pay two lots of Sky subs. One is my UK Sky HD sub and the other is an Irish sub purely intended so I can watch RTE 1, RTE 2, TV3 and TG4 on my Dreambox.

If Sky decide to block Linux boxes somehow then I would give serious thought to "moving" my UK Sky HD sub to Northern Ireland to get at least RTE and TG4 (not bothered about TV3). The Irish sub would get canned as I certainly don't want to go back to a simple zapper box with no direct recording facility.

Would a mail forwarding service like Mail Boxes etc. work with a Sky sub?

I don't necessarily have a problem with Sky tightening their security but surely the time has come for Sky and NDS to issue a legit CAM so HTPC and non-Sky boxes can legitimately watch paid for Sky channels??

Yep, that would be a good idea for subscribers I think. But would it ever happen? I doubt it.

Guys, isn't this card change simply going to employ the latest incarnation from NDS ? Which is just what Sky Italia have done , as they now use NDS3. Still works in a Dreambox , you just have to watch your clock speed !

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

As Analoguesat said earlier, at this stage everything is speculation, the only concrete fact is that they are going to be swapped.

I can't however see the point of a card swap if it doesn't address the burgeoning cardsharing industry, unless of course there is a serious breech in the system of which we are not fully aware (ignoring of course the guy down Scunthorpe market who sells chipped boxes).
