Any error messages? Check the VLC log and post the contents if its not empty. (Under Tools -> Messages, or press Ctrl+M)

Have you tried other versions of VLC?

Also, try watching a Free to air channel when testing to be sure its not a problem with a channel not decrypting properly.

It's most likely is a bandwidth problem, I cant think of anything else that could cause it.

Depending on how your AP is configured you could be loosing bandwidth.
Under certain setups the bandwidth could be being halved.

E.g. A linksys wifi router configured as a 'client bridge' looses half of the available bandwidth going from 54Mbps to 27Mbps. This would be with a wireless G (802.11g) wifi network.

The above would probably be fine, but if its a wireless B (802.11b) you'd be halving your connection speed from 11mbps to 5.5mbps at best. The actual through put could be as little as half this again. So you can see why streaming would struggle.

I would check which wifi standard is being used by your neighbors wifi router. If its set to B, change it to G if possible (It may not be with older routers).

Hi cgworld,

It is most likely bandwidth as compufunk says but is probably signal level related. In my own house I can only just stream video from the high quality standard definition channels at the extremities of the house. When fta HD stations were available I could not stream them even with Laptop next to WiFi router (but they were perfect with a wire Ethernet connection). I very much doubt I could get a strong enough signal to stream even standard definition TV if I took my laptop next-door!
Check the WiFi signal level and when you have optimised the position of your WiFi receiver, try again.

Also (my pet subject, don't you know!) try clicking the Audio PID number instead of the VLC button and you will be sent an 'audio.pls' file instead of 'video.m3u'. Open this in the same way with VLC and you will stream just the audio of the selected channel. This obviously requires much less bandwidth so should work fine. It will at least let you know that everything is working and lack of bandwidth/WiFi signal is the most probable cause of Video streaming problems.

Best wishes, John.

My System: Dream7020 and AZ Elite

Use a card sharing proggy, like cccam

Setup is easy and You can find it here in this site, just use search.

Then there would be no problems

Anyway, wireless is no good for sharing

I may not have read correct but is the setup that your neighbour has a Dreambox and you are accessing it via web interface from your pc? Whats does he think when you change channels when he is viewing? lol

I still think its a bandwidth problem. If wireless reception is marginal, you may have had enough signal to stream for an hour, then somebody in your neighbors house closes a door or moves something and you lose your signal.

Have you done any testing??? Why not visit your neighbouor and see how streaming works within his/her house.

My System: dreambox 500/sky HD 1mtr motorized dish

its bandwith prob m8

router will only stream at 54 m/bits ps at best when within good range
you also have to take in account opf walls microwave and other household goods possibly interfering

best bet would be to run cat 5 between houses through a switch then you will get constant 100 m/bits ps
you can run approx 100 mtrs at this rate

you also have to take in account next door might be using a lot of b/width
depending on what he is doing ie surfing or downloading files.

which will reduce your recieving b/width

i stream from my d/box through a switch and cable to my pc / software/bitcontrol digital tv link and media player if find vlc a bit hit and miss

Creator of the CCCCC - only a true wizard could come up with such a name!!

I can't believe this has not been mentioned yet. This is a DM500 right ? In order to watch a channel via web interface / vlc it must be the channel being viewed on the box or at least a channel on the same transponder. If he is watching channel 1, you cannot watch channel 2. If that's telling you something you already know, then as mentioned its ost likely a bandwidth problem or maybe a windows problem.

I don't think that was ever the issue here B16MCC. The OP was using the web interface to select channels.

TBO I would suspect that the OPs reluctance to actually test/validate anything would suggest that he was trying to access a network/stream/box that didn't belong to him/her.

There will be no more help from me until its proven that this is not the case.
