Hi guys, good weekend ?
I spent a few hours of mine testing external readers. So far I have been unsuccesful. Here's the readers I've tested.
1. Infinity USB - In Phoenix mode using a PL2302 USB to Com adapter.
Note:- You cannot use the com port on any Enigma 2 dreamboxes, its reserved for DreamUp flashing only. Hence the reason for the USB to Serial adapter.
I set the infinity USB in windows to start up in Phoenix mode at 3.58mhz.
I used the USB connection to power it and the serial connection connected to the PL2302 adapter.
2. Infinity USB Smart - I installed a VCP module in windows to run it in phoenix mode again at 3.58mhz.
3. Smargo - Tried all sorts of settings including running it in phoenix mode. Bare in mind, what ever settings you make to the smargo must be made in the machine you want to use it in. Setting it in windows and then removing it to plug it into your Dreambox will reset some settings. Use the linux tools to set it via telnet in the Dreambox.
I tried all of these readers on both the Dreambox 7025 & 8000 and on Ubuntu in a VM. Every time the 'dmesg' command reported the device attached and assigned to /dev/usb/tts/0 on the Dreambox, and /dev/ttyUSB0 on the ubuntu VM.
Despite this, trying many different parameters I still have no joy.
Bare in mind when using an external reader NewCS requires a couple of extra settings that are not needed when using a Sci device.
You should add the following when attempting to use an external reader.
<reset>normal</reset>
<parity>odd</parity>
As I say these are not needed by the sci readers as it ignores them. These are needed by an external reader and are applicable to any NDS card.
What I'm not sure about is the capability of newcs regarding external readers. It simple may not be possible. Very frustraiting to say the least. May be Uvadi will fix it for us with the next CCcam release, then it will be back to the smargo , nice and easy... I really hope so !
