Sharing externally

Up untill now I've been sharing on my internal lan from my dm800 hosting my card to my dm500.

This is my cfg on my dm800
Code:
SERVER LISTEN PORT : 32452
N: 192.168.1.64 60000 dm800user dm800pass 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 2
F: dm500user dm500pass 32452 2 1 0 { 0:0:1 }
This is my cfg on my dm500
Code:
N: 192.168.1.64 60000 dm500user dm500pass 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 2
I understand that I have to forward the newcamd port that im using on my router (60000) to the dm800 ip but i dont think I have to forward my cccam port too? (32452)

I'm assuming that I only need to change the ip address in my dm500 cfg to show my external ip/dyndns. Is this right?

I have tried all the above but while in telnet to newcs if I change the dm500 cfg ip it logs me out of newcs then logs me back in when I change it back.

I have read that my particular (isp supplied) router, speedtouch dg585v6 does have its problems with port forwarding and many people have bridged this router to modem mode and used another router to port forward.
Is there anyone that can help with checking my ports?
Just thought I'd ask before going down the road of changing my router and ask if there is anything wrong with my cfg?

Your theory is correct. You are using N lines to access NewCS therefore you only need to forward the newcamd_port to the host box IP.

The F: line in your DM800 is not needed, its not doing anything. Your DM500 is not connecting to CCcam, its connecting to NewCS.

ok thats what I was thinking as when I added the n line to my dm800 cfg, that allowed me to view on that box however I did just have an n line in both cfg's but i think the reason I added the F line was that it was the only way i was getting a picture on the 500.
Anyway Im not totally sure and arn't in a position to check at the min.
Maybe its not a port forwarding issue and its something else. I might try changing the port too.
Anyway ill check it out over the weekend and report back.
Cheers

ok....as usual b16mcc, you're are completely correct. its only an n line i need. So if i change the ip to my external address i am not connected. it must be a port issue,
Is there a way to check if my ports are open?

I agree its very likely its a port forwarding issue. I can't advise exactly about port forwarding as there's so many routers out there. Check the settings in your router using your web browser. You'll need to forward port 60000 to the IP address of your NewCS server box.

Depends on the router. You can't ping your external ip from the lan unless the router has loopback.

Have you enable port forwarding to both UDP & TCP or just one or the other

If you are unsure of how to set your router up please checkout this web page.

yes I'd already been there just to check I was doing it right as the interface is really un-user friendly. It seems I am doing it correctly.
The router is a Speedtouch 585 v6 supplied by bethere.
I found this site which can check your open ports _http://www.auditmypc.com/firewall-test.asp it does report back that my port is open for tcp although I have opened it for both tcp& udp, will this matter?

I've also been here _http://www.adsl2forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9968 which is where it seems lots of people have given up trying to forward ports and bridged the router instead.

At the moment I havnt moved my second box but still have it on my LAN. Should this matter that I'm changing the ip for the external one while the box is still local? (i just thought i'd set it up before moving it)

In case anyone is interested.........Huevos's comment got me thinking, if I cant ping my external ip without loopback then maybe I cant change my cccam.cfg to include the external ip. Well seems like I was right, as soon as I moved the box to another location it all works

It's pretty simple really. If the client is connecting from the LAN they should use the cardserver LAN ip. If the client is connecting from outside the LAN (i.e. the internet) then the WAN ip should be used.
