RS 232 with USB

Hi,

Can I use a cable that is USB on one end and RS 232 on the other for updating a Dreambox as I cant use a normal RS 232 as my laptop does not have the relevant slot.

Possibly. It really depends which one you have. Some work , some don't. Mostly those converters are an RS232 converter but not a full null modem. What DM do you have, can you not flash it via your router using the Web Interface ?

Me, I do.

Why can't you connect to it via ethernet and use the web interface, it is much quicker and easier?

I have used a usb-rs232 as well of course, for an old receiver. The one I had was not a null modem, so a null-modem cable had to be connected on the rs232 end.

I believe you can buy them with the null-modem included, try Ebay.

The web interface is your best option mate... the serial connection is a pain in the xxx particularly if you do not have the right cable; not to mention the speed advantage

Read this thread - it is the same on most dreamboxes, just on 7025 you press the bottom button.
