Hello

Welcome to the forum Tom01793

Firstly why buy old technology, genuine 500s have not been made for years, HD would be more future proof, and if you are thinking that you will get all sky programming for nowt then you are mistaken. What has influenced your decision to purchase in the first place?

Don't want to blow your bubble but if you are still deciding on "which" box to buy it seems a bit premature talking about card sharing. This last issue will need careful planning and experience or it will become a tragedy rather than the fun hobby it's supposed to be. Topper is right in stating that an HD box would be the logical choice as it's all obviously moving in that direction.

any of the sponsors from this site will be able to help you...

First thing is to have a clear idea on what channels you would like to watch. Based on that I suppose you will know HOW you will decrypt them and therefore the first choice is what image to use. This of course is also strictly associated to your hardware. So decide what box you will be getting and then we can take it further

Cardshare can be free if you share with some people. Others pay a server. As regards what channels it all depends on what the people you are sharing with have themselves.

No you cannot as that is not anything to do with satellite TV. You are on the wrong forum for that, you said a 500-S the S means satellite

Dont think we can post links here about that but sure just do a google of "card sharing" and go to the one with the big blue flag with gold stars (use your head!). I cant really make it easier than that.

Just a word of warning . All boxes sold by DVB Monkey are clones to the best of my knowledge. Not that it may matter but just so you are aware.

We allow basic discussion of c/s but no-one is permitted to give detailed instructions as to how to do it

(Also anyone asking for card shares or offering them gets banned pronto)

I would say go for a Dreambox(clone most likely) as they seem to be the more popular linux receivers. A good cheap entry level would be the Dreambox 500s.
