Running Enigma2 under Qemu (linux PC)

Has anybody tried this.

It looks fascinating, but as everything that is meant for "coders" they treat you like shite when you ask anything.

Was wondering if anyone hre has any experience in it as I am looking for little project to do in the new year, lol.

I briefly looked at Qemu while attempting to find a way around the problem with running a certain piece of closed source software on an SH-4 chip.

At the time, it didn't support that chip as a host, but I see that they are now testing this, so I'll take another look in the not to distant future.

As far as I know, some satellite receiver programers use Qemu to emulate enigma environment. So it is possible. I suppose it really depends on what you want to do.

What may I ask is your intended project?

Well I have a media centre pc at the moment. On this I now intend to add Windows 7 and try and run a HD sat card with cccam (still got to figure how to do this yet, lol).

Once I sort that I wanna build a htpc for sub £100. This is basically to prove to my mate that I can make something better than his sly+ box but works just as well for £100. I know I will need to source parts from fleabay (and my loft) but I reckon it can be done and if I could run enigma on it I would be laughing.

If you got anymore info I would love to hear about it.

There are plenty of options available to you.

Why not ditch windows altogether and install Linux on your HTPC. That way you could run CCcam natively and run an open source media centre type interface for EPG, channel switching etc.

You could still emulate windows under a VM environment if you wanted to.

You could also go the way you are suggesting by running CCcam on a Linux VM hosted on your windows box and connecting to it using any other EMU/Softcam that will run under windows and connect to CCcam (NewCS for example).

Because Enigma is not generally available (as far as I know) for intel based chips. You are limiting your options by thinking inside that box.

There are plenty of other open and closed source interfaces available to consider.

Qemu is a little more than an ordinary VM. You should probably check out some of the other freely available VMs which are quite capable of running linux under windows, or vice versa.

Let us know how you progress.
