My System: DM 500S | Urgent, have new sly card paired to a non HD box but using it in HD dreambox. Just called sly and told them to upgrade to HD package and was told that this update will not always work in an sd box, and i will be stuck with this package for twelve months if i do the upgrade. Will it work or not, not gonna buy an expensive HD box just to pair the card to it The card is paired to an sd box but want HD on the card in my dm. Sly say they can activate it on that card but say it might not work. | ||

However, if sly say it 'Might Not Work' what exactly are they referring to ? The activation or the viewing of channels ? I ask this because its obvious that the viewing of HD channels is not possible so why do they say 'Might' ? | ||

| I am in the same boat, I wish to update my sub to a HD one, but do not wish to buy a HD box from them, I wish to use it in a dreambox just like you ... but as far as I am aware this is not possible, ie you *must* have the card in the official HD box in order to activate the HD channels ... Hopefully someone can contradict me here ?  -Wally | ||

I hope it works cause i did the upgrade :-) Card is in the box for two hours now and still nothing. Someone told me an hour a go that normally the hd movie channels should even clear in an sd box giving an sd picture ofcourse. So i am hopefull. I will let u know i a few hours. I have a backup plan if this doesn't work. Have another card in an original sky hd box that has the variety and hd package and the contract is older then 12 months. So i can downgrade the card paired to the sd box to the variety package+HD, use that card in the hd box. If i am correct the variety pack does not need the card to be paired to get updates (hopefully the same goes for the HD pack). then i can upgrade the card paired to the sky hd box to what i need and use that in the dreambox. I need the skydigibox cause someone else in the household hates the dream :-) | ||

Re your point about the HD movie channels, I find it difficult to understand how a SD box could decode a HD picture ... perhaps what the person meant was that you would still get a picture by connecting a HD box to a SD TV ? Im happy to say that it works. The message on the SD box never changed, 'cal .......to get HD'. So i thought i didn't get the update. But then i tried it in my sky hd box and sky one HD opened and a few others. Not the movie hd channels, got this is the wrong card for this box. Then tried it in newcs and it is working on all hd channels. | ||

| now that is very interesting news indeed ! Satter, can I please ask you to confirm that sky movies could not possibly be clearing from a peer which you may be connected to in the case you use c/s ? Also, may I ask which model of SD box you were using? Something is puzzling me too, you say you have the HD channels on the EPG of your SD box? That is odd, they dont show up on my EPG at all for some reason ? -Wally | ||

It is a panasonic silver in color with the card slots on the left side when u stand in front of it. Dont know the model. Yes, BBC HD SKY1 HD all the HD movie channels....all in the epg. i only use my n line to newcs and it clears | ||

One thing which is puzzling me ; Has anyone any idea why Satter can see the HD channels (on his SD box) listed in the EPG and I cannot ? ie is it normal to see the HD channels in the EPG even if you have an SD box with an SD sub ? -Wally | |||

When i asked "how can Satter see the HD channels" , I didnt mean actually view a picture on them, I meant how can he actually see them listed on the EPG at all ? So my question is, if I have a normal SD box (from $ky), and an SD sub, should the HD channels then appear in my EPG? I had presumed not, and I know that in my own case that they do not appear. What confuses me is that Satter reports seeing HD channels on the EPG of his SD box, while the card is waiting to update to HD ... unless they just suddenly appeared as soon as the card got the message to update to HD ? -Wally | ||

My System: Dreambox with PLi-Emerald 1.09 image, Matrix revolution CAS, newcamd emu, movable dish 0.85 m, very happy indeed | might be that his SD box takes his HD sky card into account when showing the EPG. The same thing happens when the box needs to switch from an Irish epg list to one of the regional UK lists, in this case the box also uses the card regional information to select the correct EPG channels. | ||

I didnt think it was possible with the new white cards. I had my old HD card paired to a Sky+box along with the original card for that box but I could not get a new White card to activate and so bought a Sky HD receiver off Fleabay just so I could get it updated for use in my DM800 On further reading your HD box is not paired to the card or all the channels would open. My interest is because now that I have an HD sky box I was thinking of upgrading the Sky+ account to Hd without buying another HDbox. But I was thinking if I did this what would happen to the original card that is in my 800? It still needs to go into my SkyHD box to get the updates(Well Newcs/MGcam can update it now), Anyone think I can have 2 white cards paired to 1 box. It was possible with Blues . | |||

I must admit that I was pretty certain that it was not possible to updated to HD inside an SD box, but Satter's case would clearly seem to contradict this. -Wally | |||

The card is paired to an SD box. Then asked to upgrade to the HD package. On the SD box Hd channels do not work of course, at all times i get the message 'CALL ......to receive HD'. Then tried the card in my HD box and it cleared SKY1 HD (and a few others) but not the premium HD channels. So no SKY SPORTS HD or SKY MOVIES HD. So i don't think the card is paired to two boxes. It is paired to the SD box and the HD package is active on this card. It clears all HD channels on a dreambox (with newcs). One channel is not working on the DM and that is SPORTS HD3, that one does nothing for some reason. | ||

I cannot see how they could have been listed on your EPG before you made the call to sky, about upgrading this card to HD ... when you say that you get the message "CALL ... to receive HD" on the HD channels, am I rigth in assuming that these HD channel options only appeared on the EPG sometime after you made the call ? ... -Wally | ||

The HD channels were in the epg before i called. They just were there i assumed it was normal. Other channels u don't subscribe also appear in the epg with a message to call for an upgrade. | ||
