Talking Wanna Help Make A Mega Spreadsheet ?

Hi guys I've got a little project in mind that would be good for all of us. I need your help to create an excel spreadsheet to list channels and all associated information. For example the spreadsheet might contain the following :-

EPG No, Name, Freq, S/R, FEC, CAID, SID, Web Interface ID (Used For Picon Assignment)
etc, etc, etc,

Any more suggestions happily received.
I'd like to start with Sly UK and I'm looking for a small gang to help produce it. I have the empty spreadsheet ready to go with a few example entries. I think it's best if we split up the channels into groups as listed by the official EPG list. Then each person gets a section to complete. I think 8 or more people would make light work of a large broadcaster list like sly UK.

Once its complete I'm looking at converting it to a MySQL database which I will host remotely. I'll develop a windows .NET frontend for the database which you will install on your PC and it will connect to the database remotely. It will include many useful features like creating SID assignments for CCcam for example, or make bouquet lists compatible with DreamboxEdit.

Please reply if you'd like to help, when we have 6 or more we'll make a start. If you're willing to contribute but you need help on retrieving the required info then please ask.

Thanks for reading guys....

I did this before. It is quite simple to start the spreadsheet. All you need is DreamboxEdit. Open your settings, and then you can export them to Excel. You can choose either export by bouquets, or all services. You will have a spreadsheet, where each record represents a channel, and for each channel you have all those information you are looking at.
If you import settings for motorized system, then you can have the complet arc with 1 click
I was using it to create the Service Reference for naming the picon files.

Yep I see your thinking mate. It would be a great starting point. Lets see what kind of interest it generates. I want a complete reference sheet to make SID assignments, Picons, EPG channel files and the like.

I can post the sheet I have as an example. However, it is a large file. What is the maximum size for zipped archives uploaded to the forum ? Else, I can upload it to rapidshare and provide the link.

Thanks for the offer DeepDiver but I want to start from scratch as the spreadsheet will be arranged based on the official EPG list. I already have the spreadsheet ready to go. I guess you could link to it anyway. The max size allowed is 4.5mb I think.

Chaps, thanks for your interest, I'll put the spreadsheet up shortly and assign a section for you guys to fill in.

Wink Making A Start

Ok guys thanks again for your time. Here's the spreadsheet. I've made 2 demo entries up at the top to hopefully show you whats required.

The spreadsheet is made in Excel 2003 so your gonna need that or newer. Please enable macros on opening it as there's some simple code / macros in it.

Some columns are protected and not accessible, simply because these values are calculated based on the info you input. Protected columns are :-

SID (hex) - you enter the SID (dec) From Dreambox Edit and it calcs the hex.
TSID (Hex) - same applies
Service Reference - This is calculated from several other paramaters.

To gain the info you need a few other sources will help you.
You'll need DreamboxEdit and a nice up to date CCcam.channelinfo file.

Ok so far we have 4 of us so lets make a start. Guys if you'd have a go at filling in the following sections please

B16MCC - Entertainment (Complete)
sonic1 - LifeStyle And Culture
wildbit - Movies & Entertainment Ireland Variations.
andel - Music

When you've done them please rar / zip the spreadsheet and post it back.
Any one else who can help please shout. Thanks.

can you not just get the satellites.xml file, create a program to read from it and then put each line into a csv file, then import that csv file into excel or am i barking up the wrong tree with your idea?

I know that the satellites.xml file on enigma2 doesn't seem to show the satellite it is attached to so that may not work but it's a good idea and would save a lot of data input by using a simple loop on the satellites.xml file in a programming language like C# or VB.

EDIT

I read that dbedit can already export to excel so forgive my suggestion. You could probably program something so that it would put them all in epg order but that would involve a channel check on each entry anyways so it wouldn't save you time. Looks like semi-manual way for you then.

I cannot really help but i would have been up to creating a program to help you out a bit, just data inputting i hate, takes too long.

Your suggestions are quite valid mate. I am using DreamboxEdit to export information in part to cut down on time. I agree the data gathering part is tedious, hence my request for help, but once its done we'll have a spreadsheet / database that will serve as the source of information for creating all sorts of usefull stuff to use with our boxes.

Just a quick question on the likes of sky sport 1, there are 5 channels of which 2 are viewable by me at least (I think one is a Irish version) although I keep missing the adverts so not sure, anyhow is there any easyway to know what is the correct version to include?

This also happens with a few other channels, also unfortunately I've no HD here so I carnt add those details, that and two channels not in my cccam channel info file so havent got the 961/963 details

so heres what I've got upto now

Oakey22, don't worry about that part. Its actually just the SID but it will get changed later.

vamps,
Sly sports 1 for example, is UK, ROI, C*a*b*l*e and Pubs.
Use lyngsat to confirm the correct SID.
